We're going to take our boat from Stuart, Fla down to Key West, Florida. It's my Dad, brother and son so ages range from 8 to 65. We're looking for marinas to stop in on the way down as well as a marina in Key West. None of us drink so not looking for a party atmosphere, something more upscale (in terms of the marina) with neat places to explore (by boat) in the area as well as restaurants to pull up to (by boat) in the area. I read some of the other posts about the Florida keys but I was wondering if anyone had specific recommendations given our boat size (40 feet) and profile? Looking to spend 1-3 days travelling down and 1-2 days travelling back (week long trip at most).

Thanks for any/all suggestions.

Sincerely,
Jason

We picked up a boat once at Soveral Harbor in West Palm Beach and really hated to leave to bring her home. Great atomsphere, restaurants on site, walking distance to lots of stuff, just off the ICW and quiet. You won't be dissapointed.

Thanks Frank. I tried to find 'soveral' in Google Earth as well as in the Search engine but don't see it ... is that the right spelling of it? Does the Marina there have a specific name other than Soveral Harbor?

I should have mentioned it but would also appreciate any 'Avoid at all cost' Marinas/stopovers.

Regards,
Jason

We have our boat at Soverel Harbor/PGA Marina and love it....very upscale professional atmosphere. Some of the best restaurants in town are within walking distance. Very good security. http://www.pgamarina.com/1.html http://www.soverelmarina.com/

Some thoughts:
Ft. Lauderdale Bahia Mar, Pier 66, Marriott
Miamarina - Miami (what happened to the Hard Rock?)
Key Biscayne Yacht Club - check to see if outisiders are ok
Soldier/Elliott on the hook
Ocean Reef Key Largo - check to see if outsiders are ok
Sombrero Marina and Resort - Marathon
Hawk's Cay Resort - Duck Key
A&B Marina - Key West
or, go to marinas.com and figure out your own choices

Ditto on Hawks Cay Resort

Miami Beach Marina, a little nicer than miamimarina..

Bahia Mar is great in Ft. Lauderdale,

City of Palm Beach has dock space, and a nice quiet place, and you can walk Worth Avenue and around Palm Beach..
