Considering buying a 1997 Sea Ray 24 Sundeck, 5.7 mecruiser w/ 170 hours, price $8500. Options on boat are snap in carpet, ss prop, head with holding tank, trim tabs, depth finder, fresh water, compass, docking lights, dive ladder, bimini top, trailer. Boat has been for sale since October last year. Price seems to me about 1/2 what others are listing for. Marina consignment folks claims boat is in great shape, going to check it out tomorrow. What should I be looking for and particularly concerned about?

Thanks so much in advance.

EE welcome to the board.

First start off by giving us just a little more information. Where is the boat located. If it is a fresh water boat vs a salt water boat will help folks give you a better quality of answer.

But a couple of short answers.

Check the out drive for corrosion issues.
Look at the bellows for age and cracking
ask when the risers where changed out
look at how many hours are on the boat
high hours should not scare you away, but
be cautious. too many low hours are also a problem
boat that's been sitting for a very long time
is as much a problem as a misused one.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Good luck.

Boat is at Lentine Marine in Stuart, FL. Here's the link to see it -- http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1997-SEA-RAY-24-sundeck-93931376

Something doesn't pass the smell test here. Make sure that boat isn't an Ike victim from Texas:smt013 Look for sand and shells in hidden places that might not have been cleaned out...water stains where there shoudn't be any. If it looks good try to get real history from previous owners.

Do boats have salvage titles?
