I have a 1997 400 Sundancer with 3116s. Running the boat at high idle (between 5-10 MPH) the throttle controls keep slipping down and I'm constantly bringing them back up. On plane, I don't have as much of a problem, and the throttles mostly stay where I set them. I need to increase the tension and am not sure how or where to do it. Would I adjust the tension at the helm control, or where the cable connects to the engine? And how would I adjust the tension? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tension is adjusted right at the control. Unscrew the cover and turn the center screw clockwise until the tension is correct. 1/2 turn or so then check tension. I might have a picture . If I do I'll post it. There is a screw on each throttle lever.

Yes. Don't touch the control adjustments at the engine; the friction control adjustment is at the control lever at the helm.

Sea Ray used 2 types of controls on the 90's and the friction adjustment is just a slight turn of a screw under the control bezel. The early ones are flat mount Teleflex CH4400; the later top mount ones are the Teleflex CH5600. You can check the Teleflex website or looking your owners packet for the control diagrams to see which screw to adjust. There are screws controlling the detent, the stops and the friction so be sure to verify the friction screw before tightening anything.
