I have a Garmin GPSMap 1040 XS on my Sea Fox in Florida and I would like to add Weather to this system. Scrolling through the menu I see that there is an available weather subscription. Is it as simple as calling Sirius/XM to activate or do I need additional hardware? I am not at the boat until next week so I may be lacking sufficient technical information for you all to answer and if so tell me what I need to look for when I get back down south. The Unit is on a 2014 and I believe was original to the boat so likely it is a '14 as well

If the weather icon lights up then all you need is to get a subscription. It’s not cheap. I pay $59.00 per month for the full weather package.

If your icon does not light up you need a small black box. The Raymarine black box looks like the one in this pic..

I was looking on S/XM today and the coastal package was around $24
I'm not sure what it costs, but we have the coastal subscription. We are in storage from mid October to mid April. We pay for what we use so Sirius tuns it off when I tell them the boat is put away for the winter. Call them in April and it is turned back on usually during the phone call but sometimes it takes a few hours to come back. I get a paper invoice because you do not want to try and straighten out a billing issue with these guys when they have your credit card number. Remember you are dealing with an "English speaking" person in a call center. It is worth the 3 or 4 dollar up charge to get a paper bill and avoid the 30 minutes of aggravation dealing with any mistakes.

Wise. They have some of the worst customer service in the world. What seemed even more wise to me was letting go of all my S-XM subscriptions - cars and boat. I went to streaming music, podcasts, cell data and the spinny thing on the top of the boat instead.

Then SB1's method may be very worthwhile. S-XM is NOT an organization that should have your credit card info!

My experience was even better: they drafted $900 from my checking account for what was supposed to be small monthly payments.

That is sound advice.. Thank you
