Hey everyone, first boat and first post.

I got a 2022 spx 230 and wanted to add a rod holder to each side of the boat. I bought a couple that would require drilling a hole somewhere behind the water sports tower.

What I wanted to ask was this: is there a way to confirm that this is a safe place to drill and install? It seems like it's away from any systems on the boat including the fuel nozzle, but it's my first boat and would hate to drill a hole only to find something important underneath.

The pport sid ehsouldn't be a problem. The stbd side will have cables/wires running through it. However, they SHOULD be low enough not to be an issue. Pull the speaker and look.

Pulling the speaker will also give you access to see if there is enough lateral space for the size hole you need to drill. In other words, you have two vertical sections of fiberglass and then the top, horizontal section. Depending on how thick those vertical sections are will tell you if there's enough space for the tube of the rod holder.

Thanks! I'll pull those and take a look.
