Nobody wants to fight with me on the other threads so I'll come over here.

A few years ago when I was at a marina and was down in my engine room working behind my port side engine (i.e. wedged behind it and on top of it) and some ass hole starts his boat up next to mine with an open exhaust. I about came unglued as I thought that someone had just fired up the diesel engine I was stuck in... I had so many scrapes and bruises from trying to get out of that engine it was not funny...

I think exhausts are cool... I love the sound... Just not unexpectedly...

You usually have a smart a&$ comment to stir people up with.
"I think exhausts are cool"
That was a weak entry to start a fight.

"Just not unexpectedly"
I feel your pain, it's like scaring a guy while he's in an electrical panel. Not funny!!:smt009

The exhaust only 'smokes' a bit after you've been running for a while, stop, and start it back up a little while later (I'm guessing some moisture leftover). It stops after about 15 seconds, or sooner if I give it a few good rev's. :) When starting it up for the first time of the day it doesn't smoke at all.

The 350 and 496 don't sound much different online as far as I can tell, but put the two side by side and start them up, and you can most definitely tell which one is the big block.
The "sounds" are the same, but the "tone" is much deeper with the 496. Almost like the difference between someone with a 10" subwoofer vs. someone with a 12" subwoofer... you can feel the 12" subwoofer throughout your body when it hits...

I've heard clips online of the 5.0's and they sound great as well. Again, maybe not as low of a tone as the 350 or 496, but definitely a V8.

Thanks for the compliment on the Yellow Bridog. Its unfortunate, we asked if we could get an '08 270 or 290 slx in yellow (even if we had to special order) and we were told "No". :( So unless Sea Ray decides to offer a yellow hull on their larger sport boats, I'm just going to have to stick to my 220 (and mod'ing it when necessary to keep 2footitis at bay). :)

I agree something that loud heard unexpectedly or right in your face (or next to your slip) could put someone in a bad mood real fast. Again one of the benefits of captains call.

Has anyone seen pics of the 300SLX? It has dual corsa exhaust as an option. So dual tips on each side. That would just sound incredible! :)

And yes, I agree, that was a real weak attempt at a fight Gary. Are you feeling ok? :)

Mmmmm. All this talk makes me want to fire up my 502.

$2900 (parts, labor, and shipping all included).

It is about a $1800-$1900 option on a new Sea Ray. Some other manufacturers charge up to $2500 for this option.

Geurk..

Is there any recommended maintenance for the Corsa exhaust?? When I flush the motor I try to run it thru the corsa system for a few minutes as well.. I just dont want to have the seloinoids freeze up.... I just wonder if there is any where to lube them.....

Just think what my two 8.1's would sound like!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No smoke at start up - because I suspect it's steam, and at start up, there's not enough heat to create the steam from the water used to cool the exhaust. There was an earlier thread about concern over a sport cruiser smoking from one side exhaust port. Turns out that they all smoke/steam, and depending on the winds, you may only see one at any time unless you lean over and look closely. I noticed this too on mine when it was new (to me).

OK this is getting very, very strange. You all know I'm not a big fan of these things but yesterday I went back on Guerk's video with his Corsa exhaust because I just couldn't understand what I might be missing. While watching the video (and admiring the yellow gel coat:grin:) a couple of landscapers started doing their thing outside. It was a particularly warm day here and the windows were open. So here I am....watching the video, with a couple of leaf blowers "blowing" and a couple of weed wacker's "wacking" and the smell of gas coming into the house then all of a sudden my wife walks into the room and ask's me a question. All I saw were her lips moving and nothing else. It was absolutely wonderful! Now...where did I put my drill?

As far as I know there isn't any special maintenance to be done. The only limitation was not to switch the exhaust on/off when over 3000RPM.

On Corsa's, the diverters are actuated by a solenoid. They simply don't have the strength to open much above 3000 rpm. Usually one will open, but the other fails. Then the breaker trips and they both close. My dad has this set up on his 81 260 dancer.

I had IMCO's Sound Advantage on my 260. It operates with an electric motor and opens at any speed. However, it is gradual, so the exhaust slowly increases or decreases in volume. The Corsa's are instantaneous. If you open them at 3000 rpm without telling passengers, they will usually jump a bit.
