I anchor to fish for perch in Lake Erie and because of how quickly the lake kicks up I want to make sure that my bow is always into the wind. So my plan is to either add a bow pulpit or just an eye hook to feed the line through and tie off to the forward mooring hook. Any suggestions?

Is there not a center cleat or spot to tie off from on the front of the boat?? If not, you should be able to just wrap the line around the front-most cleat. If that does not keep you straight enough, make a bridle that holds the line between the two front cleats, kind of like the bridle that hooks onto the transom and pulls a skier from the center.

From experience, a bow pulpit is a big job. Maybe you could add a cleat to the front center of the boat, that's not such a bad job to do, just make sure you put something behind it for a backer.

I am also thinking of taking on this task, but am quite intimidated by the idea of either making a custom pulpit or adding a central eye. I was anchored yesterday in 3-5 footers and because there is no central cleat or eye the side of my boat continually ended up in the trough, very frustrating. What is best... What is best....

Some older boats had a thing that routes the line through it, but not an eye. A guy slipped next to me with an old chris and another guy with an egg have them, you could put one of those on and still tie off to the cleat.

How about just letting out more anchor rode?
