We are taking delivery of a 2007 260 next weekend, and I want to add a Magma removable post grill stand to the swim platform. I know the bolts are 1/4", to fit the deck plate, but can someone who has done this tell me how LONG the bolts need to be?
From what I can see, I will need to access the underside of the swim platform from the engine/bilge area, behind the batteries on the starboard side.

If anyone has mounted one of the grill mount deck plates, I'd surely appreciate any directions or advice.

the swim platform is thin. I don't remember the exact size I used but measure the thickness of the base and add 1" or maybe 1.5" to get the length of bolt needed. It really doesn't matter if you get too long bolts because they will be sticking out on the underside of the platform where no one will see. Use stainless steel hardware and use silicone in the bolt holes. i used fender washers under the platform to act as a backing plate for the bolts.

I think he is installing in the molded in transom area of the platform, not the extended platform. Its likely not that thin in that area and may actually be a plywood cored area.

Cliff,
Creekwood is right--you have the extended platform; my 2007 does not. I'm looking at mounting on the standard swim platform.
Creekwood--if this is a fiberglass cored area, can I get away with marine wood screws, bedded in 4200. I would never run with the grill in place, and would only use it when at a calm anchorage.

I wouldn't chance it.

I agree. Screws will back out over time and let water in and that is a very wet and exposed location. You will get rot down in the wood. Drill through, seal the wood hole by filling with epoxy, then redrill the epoxy. Then use 4200 or similar sealant in the holes and under the mount to ensure no water gets in.

If you find it is solid glass, then you don't need to go the epoxy seal route, but I would still use bolts. I guess if you cannot access the back side, you have no choice, but its not ideal.

Appreciate this--now, I've located a source for 316 marine grade machine screws, but my question is HOW LONG do they need to be? I can get 316 grade up to 3" long in 1/4" diameter, but any longer takes me back to 18-8 grade. Any help is appreciated.

I attached a grill base similar to the magma base. drilled pilot holes used stainless wood screws and 4200 same as mdwhitten. This was on a rinker. Couldn’t get to the back side without motor removal. 5 years and no leakage or loose screws.

Love your little table. Can you give me info on how that’s mounted to the grab rail? Thanks
