I called Wolverine several years ago. They would not give me a thumbs up on USCG approved. I really wanted to use Wolverine but without that approval, any excuse the insurance companies could use to not pay in the event of any mishap, they would/will use.

No. I have two. It's about the same as holding a cup of coffee in your hands.

Golden Rods come with little plastic snap on feet. You can lay it on the carpet or bunk on its feet without problems. Don't expect even several Golden Rods to noticeably change the temperature in the boat, but they do generate enough rising heat to help avoid condensation in the boat.
