Adding a Battery Combiner - how many amps?

I just got one of the blue sea system off ebay for $111 including the shipping. I'm gonna move the switch to the right of my jump seat so I don't have to lift lid to turn off.

Obviously one battery must be a cranking battery. Can the other battery be a deep cycle only? Or does it need to be a combination deep cycle/Cranking battery?

In the schematic I provided the SRM-27 is a cranking/deep cycle. The U2200 batteries were 6 volt 220AH golf cart batteries wired in series to produce 12volts. I had no problems mixing these battery types. All three batteries (2 banks) were wet cell. I would not personally mix AGM with wet cell.... etc. I will never own wet cell again.... too messy... Optima's are my preference from here on out.

Thanks this helps and thanks for the schematic. What is the truecharge? Did you plug in shore power to the True Charge?

TrueCharge is simply a battery charger for when the boat was home in garage. I wired with a Marinco male 120v recessed plug so I could plug in and keep the batteries charged.

I don't think the combiner and the battery will be bad but I don't look forward to installing the amp & Sub. I plan on mounting them in the area in front of the helm and its normally very hot in there.

We live in an area where 90's and 100's are a regular thing during the summer. To keep our amps cool we installed the amps in a sealed starboard case that I made with a push and pull fan setup and a relay that was kicked on when the amps were powered up. Kept these guys cool enough to do the job..... and we were nearly 4k watts.

Good luck to all on your projects.

The Blue Sea 7650 is the way to go for adding a 2nd battery (we sell them for $111 too, I will match the ebay $0 shipping). An even better setup is using the battery switch included with the 7650 and the Yandina combiner. I forget the # of the Blue Sea Switch but it costs like $35 if memory serves me. The Yandina combiner is a lot easier to install than the Blue Sea combiner. Using this Blue Sea switch will eliminate the routine of switching batteries from 1 and 2 and both. ALl you do is turn it to "on" and forget about it. House stuff runs off 1 batter and the engine runs off the other.

Jim,

I hope this offer is available to all us CSR folk? should we be going to BOE Marine online to purchase?

Thank you!

Gregg
