Added a Digital Tuner to the Drop Down TV in the cabin of my 260DA

All you have to do is re-route one coax cable from the back of the Glomex controller (mounted to the panel in the closet). You unscrew the cable connected to the "To TV" connector on the Glomex and plug that cable into the "out" side of the converter box. Then you take the other coax provided with the converter and plug it into the "in" side of the converter and plug the other end back into the (now) empty slot in the Glomex. The only other caution I will mention is before wiring in the power for your converter, you will have to use an ohm meter to figure out which wire comming from the controller is the hot side and which is the ground since the wires are not marked. The Sea Ray 12V wiring is color coded so splicing into that is easy.
Dave,

I'm sorry but I'm confused...wouldn't you take the one "to TV" and plug into the "from ant" on the box? And then take the cable from the box to the TV?

Yes you are correct:

Take the existing cable plugged into the TV, disconnect at the glomex box from the TV out and plug this end into the convertor TV OUT jack.

Connect the converter box supplied cable between the TV IN on the converter box and the TV OUT on the glomex box.

The cable to the TV isn't accessible on the input side of the TV unless you want to remove the TV too. So just remove the cable end from the Glomex and plug into into the OUT on the convertor since the out on the convertor goes to the IN on the TV. The new cable can then go from the Glomex to the IN on the converter.

Does it have a connection for an external IR teather? Is one provided?

No external IR input jack on this one... I thought of that to. You could mount the converter box hidden away and just have an IR receiver mounted on the wall. No such luck. :smt089

Will this work if the tv on the boat is AC/DC?

Thanks, KV

Not sure about your question: The converter box is 12VDC only - your "TV" power connection doesn't get modified. Hope this helps.

NOTE: To make things easier for anyone doing this project - the power supply cord is marked with one black wire with white stripes and the other with no markings (all black). The positive side of the cable is the black wire (with no white stripes). Just installed mine today and if works like a charm. 6 digital channels. I spliced a .75 A fast blow fuse and holder inline with the positive cable.

I'm going to wire the unused composite video/audio outputs from the dtv unit to the LCD TV and the Clarion stereo next so I can get stereo audio through the Clarion system by replacing the Clarion CD changer stereo outputs with the DTV stereo outputs (I never use the CD Changer). That way I can use the Clarion stereo for my MP3 player and fade the the music to just the cockpit speakers and the wife can watch TV in the cabin (through the TV mono speaker) or we can both watch DTV in stereo.

I believe I am going to have to re-read this thread. I guess I am missing something. Is it that the glow max will only pick up analog signals. I thought the tv signals where still be broadcast in analog only the data was in digital format on the analog carrier?

The new Glomax, not sure when it changed, are both digital and analog capable antennas. My boat came with one in 2006 ready to go. The problem is the older TV tuner's only process an analog signal. The converter boxes downsample the digital signal to analog so you can view them on the older TVs. The digital signals have been out for years now with more and more stations getting on board. The June deadline coming will only terminate the broadcast of the old analog signal forever.

Free DTV rocks!

Not true, some channels can and will be able to broadcast in analog. Mostly local public access channels though. That is why it is a good idea in larger markets to get a converter box with analog pass through, that way you can get the digital channels, and still get analog channels that may be available.

True, if there is anything in there of interest to you. Personally, I have no use for those channels.

I just ordered an Artec T3AP-LS from TigerDirect.com - $.01 with the $40 credit - sheez I didn't think anything for a boar should be that cheap! It's in stock.

I'll find out if my '05 Glomax will receive digital signals...

Good luck. If it does, which I believe it will, there should be a sticker on the outside stating it is digital and analog capable.

OK, If you haven't noticed there are way too many models by Artec that begin with T3A...

So in a total waste of good time, not finding any comparison on them, I built one. Here is what I gathered off the Artec web site. If not careful when ordering somewhere, you may not get exactly what you may want.

As promised here are the pictures of the hole that I drilled in the bulkhead. As I mentioned before, this hole could easily be covered later with a nicely shaped piece of wood painted black to match the shelf and rail. Just drill as low as possible. The Converter will hide the opening.

Dave, I followed your lead and installed the Artec T3AP Pro. Thanks for the guide, it was very easy to do indeed. The one change I made, I decided not to drill the hole. There was enough of a gap where the partition meets the freeboard to route the wires. Here's a photo of it. The unit then tucks neatly back against the partition as you have it.

Additionally, here is a photo of the power connection I made. I just used 2 saddle clips to connect it up and a couple of zip ties to keep it all in place.

Thanks.

My box came today. My box came with a plug end. Did I get the wrong box or can I cut off the plug and then tap into the tv and glowmax power?

The plug should actually be a transformer type plug, correct? I just cut the transformer plug off and tapped into the 12 volt system.
