A 44 sedan bridge and have a question. Some of the quarter round trim (like beside the fridge) has a cloudy look to it. Is this common? Ive looked at a number of 420’s and 44’s and a few of them had the same thing going on? I’m assuming it can be sanded to the wood and re-varnished? Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks

Congrats on the boat!

I can't speak specifically about that model, but Sea Rays in general tend to have very little real wood. Cabinets and such tend to be faced in wood-look laminate material. At best it would be a thin wood veneer over plywood or other material. Not much of any varnish was used on these boats.

I would be exceptionally careful about taking anything abrasive to the wood-look parts on these boats unless you are 100% sure its solid wood.

I just looked up a few pics of 44DB interiors. That vertical trim to the right of the fridge looks to me to be laminate trim that is color matched to the cabinets.

I know that Sea Ray had a very prevalent issue with the wood veneers clouding over. This seemed to be worse for boats kept in hot and humid environments. I don't believe they're a way to reverse this on surfaces already affected. You may be able to prevent it getting worse by keeping the interior at a more reasonable temperature (80+-) and using the dehumidifier mode on your HVAC units.

Thanks for the tips. Survey and sea trial went pretty well. Looks like we will be going to closing in a week or so.

Makes sense that this trim would a plastic material. Would also explain the color change. I'm thinking a matching wood grain vinyl wrap might do the trick. Holds up well on cars. It should work here. Boat is in FL now but coming back up north out of the FL heat and humidity

Common problem on certain laminates from 2005-2008. There are several posts on the site of owners who have tacked the issue by removing and replacing the offending laminate pieces. We have the cloudy laminate issue on the curved parts of our boat and it is visible if someone points it out. If I could get an exact match with high-grade laminate look tape, I would try to put a piece of tape over it to match. I wouldn't recommend taking the trim off as you would be replacing one problem with another bigger problem imo.

This issue was explained a few years back as Searay changed to a different finish that did not do well in the sun. I had a small piece of trim off of my 44 and it is wood. There was no way to repair the fog with sanding or polishing, the finish would need to be removed which would be a tough job on the boat. I actually bought a satin black wrap but sold the boat before I got to the project.
