Abacos Islands trip in July

Is anyone planning on going on the Abacos Islands Bahamas Fling trip in July???? I know it's just Nov. but I've already registered!!!:grin:

When this came up last time a member with a 280 said he was fine from west end to spanish cay, and in the right conditions to marsh harbor - this was based on multiple trips

You will make Spanish or Green Turtle from West End but you will not make Marsh Harbor. I have been twice over, once on a 280 and Marsh Harbor from West End is not doable in a 280.

Is it the one that leaves out of Stuart? Have you gone on one of these before? How was it organized?

Yes it is the one out of stuart. It was pretty organized, and yes I've been on one before, last june to bimini. The people from the bahamas tourism were really nice to the group and took good care of us during the trip.:grin:

Also forgot to mention, there is a lead boat and last boat w/a member of bahamas tourism that go and we all stay in radio contact during the trip. I can't wait to see them all again, class act people!!!

Boy I'm jealous!! They already posted all the fling trips for next year... Can't think that far ahead, but I definitely missed not being able to go on one this year due to some engine-cold fuel filter issues... I can't imagine the gas and price per gallon for the Abacos trip in my boat... but boy that would be a great adventure!

First off, your going from Port Lucaya thru the Lucayan waterway, to Treasure Cay. Day two you go from Treasure Cay to Marsh Harbor. After a few days at Marsh Harbor, you go to Green Turtle Cay, then Green Turtle Cay to West End.:grin:

From my distant chart I have, here are some numbers for that trip:
Port lucaya to treasure is about 145 statute miles, I know when I had my 280 I would not try that distance. My safe distance was 125 and even that only left about 10-15 gallons in the tank.

Green turtle to west end is about 115 statute miles, doable but very very close on fuel, would rather go from Spanish to west end which is 100 statute miles.

I'm checking with Richard Treco (mgr. bahamas fling trips) to verify the distances and where fuel stops will be available. @ trit21, have you ever gone on one of the fling trips?? I have and from my experience, they would have no trouble making an extra fuel stop for boats that needed one. But I'll see when richard gets back w/me and let you know, I appreciate your mileage info too. :smt038

Have never done the flings, gone with just groups from our dealer or alone. Problem with the places you are going there are very few additional fuel stops. After Spanish, not much around so if you need fuel on your return trip, better get it there.

I would verify the distances yourself, get the Abaco GuideBook, they have all the waypoints, distances, etc. Don't trust someone else, do your own work for the waypoints, etc.

always call ahead to make sure the important places have fuel. sometimes they run out or don't get deliveries.

Any Plans going yet? I'll be running down to stuart from canaveral next week if anyone is around - May leave with the fling out of stuart 7/11 unless there is anyone else going. I'm going to post on the Bimini thread too as that is an alternate option for us....
