a wonderful story from Florida

I may be stepping out of line here but let me say that some of these comments about shooting a bad guy in your house seem pretty cavalier. As a former cop who taught officer survival, firearms instruction and also classes on how to mentally handle the stresses that come from being the guy who shot the bad guy I just want you to know a few things about being in a shooting.

I've been in one shooting where the guy took a shot at me with a 12 gauge shotgun and I introduced him to my "one and done" program. Even though I knew the shooting was a "good shooting" and I knew the various mental after effects that would come, they still happened. When they did, I was prepared so their affects on me were minimal.

I'm just saying that if you shoot someone, even a bad guy in your home, and no matter how justified the shooting is you will likely suffer from various mental trauma.

Now, on the subject of shooting a bad guy, you do not have to prove what his intentions were (to harm you or not). You do not have to know whether he's armed or not. Even with a couple of burglars, you likely would be justified shooting them even if they were not armed because of what's called "disparity of force", in other words they have enough strength to overcome you and injure you just because they outnumber you.

I'm not suggesting you don't shoot a bad guy in your home, you have the right to protect yourself and your family so, as the old saying goes "Lock and Load".

Good feedback, thanks

Just a suggestion to all of you who don't currently watch this Youtube channel, you should tune into "Langley Outdoors Academy".

This is the most reasonable approach to shooting situations and offers excellent advice on how to survive various shootings.

All of that guilty conscious crap goes away when you have your parents taken away in a home invasion by a couple of ex-cons who wanted cash for drugs and prostitution.

If someone tries to come through my door the four legged security system is going to wake me right up at which point I’ll be slinging lead.

Then I will have no problem going on about my day with a clear conscious.

The problem is that until everyone loses a family member to the scum of our society they won’t feel the way I do and by the time everyone has had such an experience our society is long gone.

By the way the, in regards to the OP and the title… it is a wonderful story. Those two that are dead will no longer reproduce and they won’t graduate to the crime of murder on one of our family members. When those bastards hit the ground, the world became a little bit better place.

YA. Different states have different rules. You discharge a firearm in MD, and kill some one. You will be bankrupt defending your self in court. You might get off after spending a year or 2 in jail. But if you kill some in this state you are screwed. You will not just pop a perp, then climb in bed and go back to sleep.
And most likely you will be charged with possession of an illegal weapon because it’s damn near impossible to own a ‘legal’ weapon in this state.
That said, I have 2 Very Extremely illegal weapons that are totally untraceable. Not because I am a thug, but because this state has forced me to break the law to protect my family.

And you still live there???

'Four legged security system'...I had one of those but he passed away several years ago. Don't have the energy to work with/train another one. This is 'Gus', all around great dog and 115lbs of badass when needed.

I got a guard cat. Those claws are sharper than a samurai sword.

I dont know...

Your guard cat looks a lot like my non-guard cats look like 23 and 1/2 hours per day.
The other 1/2 hour they eat and shit.
I'm pretty sure any good burglar could lure them away with a shoe lace.

Meet Willie G.

He may not look like much but if someone sets a foot in my house when I’m not there to stop Willie G there will be some blood on the floor and a lot of noise by the time they deal with him.
By then I’ll be up and ready.

I have very good friends that raised Giant Schnauzers. Great dogs, especially if they know you, otherwise… I wouldn’t suggest trying anything unless you want a whole lot of whoop ass unloaded on you.

I have no interest in the reason a criminal has to break into my house and I'm certainly not going to risk my life or my family's life to ask him or her why they decided to illegally enter my home. I don't care about the criminal's poor family life or the fact he lost his little toy when he was little and was traumatized. Bottom line is he or she is going to have the clip emptied into them, period. I will not feel remorse or miss a minute of sleep because this scumbag decided to force their way into my home. I do feel bad even killing insects but I have no empathy for what happens to criminals. We have lost law and order in our society. Criminals know they will be back on the street soon after their arrest so there is no deterrent and no reason not to continue their life of lawlessness. Break into my house and your criminal career is over and you won't be back on the street.

Here's my new anti-crime tool. I bought a Springfield Hellcat 9mm and took it to the range Tuesday morning. All shots were taken at a 10' range. Some might question why so close, and that's easy to answer. Almost all gunfights happen at 10' or less and they're over in about 4 seconds. The next trip to the range I'll fire at 15 yards just to see how it does.

This first target is 6 rounds, slow fire. These were the first 6 rounds out of a new gun that I hadn't shot before.

This next target was 6 rounds to the head, firing as fast as I could pull the trigger. I didn't use the sights on this one.

This one is 30 rounds, as fast as I could shoot and reload. No sights used.

The Hellcat did much better than I would have expected out of a 9mm sub-compact pocket pistol. Recoil was easily manageable, barrel rise was not as bad as I expected, and the gun shoots to the point of aim. Can't ask for much more than that.
