A Sailor's last Voyage....

I'd like to take another moment to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts and prayers. We all know each other here online, and I've met a handful of you in person and know it's a great community and extended family here. Thank you all a ton. It's been a surreal few days but I too am glad his suffering is past. We just finalized the date for his memorial and I'm excited to put a video together for him and hear the things his friends will have to say.

Again, thanks a ton for all the support.

Just reading this today... I'm so sorry Todd to hear about your Dad. I know it has been a tough couple of months for you and the whole family. My deepest condolences to you, Mo, and your entire family.

Very sorry for your loss. I went through it with my dad a few years ago with alzheimer. It was tough to watch a strong intelligent man lose everything. Be happy that you got to give your dad this last boat voyage.

Todd,

Although we have never spoken, I have been incredibly touched by everything that you have shared.

After my Mother died, a friend who had experienced the same loss many years earlier advised me that you never get over your loss, but eventually you do get used to it.

Godspeed to your Father on his cruise to heaven - I picture him at the helm of Ebb Tide on smooth seas and in calm winds.

Your family is in our prayers.

- Scott

Todd,
Very sorry for your loss. So great that you could be there with him, and with all that family, your burden will be well shared.

I know what you feel, as my father passed away years ago, and I still wish he could share a boat ride, or tell me stories of his life. Knowing that you've honoured him in his passing helps to fill the hollows.

Perhaps we'll connect in the Straight sometime, but in the meantime I wish you and your family all the best of memories as you turn this page in your life.

Todd,

So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear Todd. My prayers are with you and your family.

Up here in the "north country" I know your dad is probably having a great time sailing in and out of "new" harbors with the sea spray in his face and the wind at his back!

Thanks again guys for the continuing words of support and shared emotion. I've been working on a video for his memorial. It's very therapuetic but emotionally tough at the same time. I'll share it on youtube or something after his memorial on June 8th.
Thanks again everyone.

My neighbor, great friend, and former Captain of the USS Eisenhower, CAPT James H Mauldin passed in his home today. He was a great man, and he will be missed.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Please pass along condolences to his family and thank them for his service to our country.

All the best brother....you honoring him here is a noble thing.

Good day Captain James H Mauldin,
You have served your country, friends and family well.

Sail on Sir, sail on.
Thank you.

Thank you all. Jim could tell some stories. He generally chose not to tell ones about the Navy, but sometimes he would. We loved having cocktails with them in the evening. They were our neighbors, but after 12 years, they became family.

Jim has a collage (sp?) of pictures of himself with our dog framed in his house. He loved our dog so much that his daughter made him the gift for his birthday. He would stop by and borrow our dog to go for a walk to see other neighborhood friends. The little dog in the photo is his dog that they rescued so that he wouldn't feel so guilty about keeping our dog. We didn't mind.

Friendships are one of the greatest gifts we can have and looks like you had a great gift. Our prayers are with Jim and his family as well as his friends!
Fair winds and following seas and long may your big jib draw, Jim!

It's been a long time since I was involved in this post. After digging through a box of spare cables the day after Christmas to connect an Apple TV, I found the missing cord (proprietary to JVC) I need to get the video off of my old camcorder. I found a ton of video from 2007-2009, including this, the video I took, which I've never seen until yesterday. Surreal.

Swollen from steroid treatments this is my Dad, bald and bundled up on the left in the Navy coat. His close buddies came to see him after his last boat trip.

Todd,
I'm sitting here writing this in tears. I think you know I lost my dad this year. I'm touched by this thread and I'm so glad you got to have that time with your dad.

Todd I have a picture of my dad and my 2 brothers altogether with me on our last hunt. Everytime I see it I remember what a lose I have without dad around.

Glad you found the Video and shares it with us.

Thank you Bill. I am also sorry the loss of your father.

Todd,
God bless you & your family. I hope that this day provided your dad with a break from the crushing weight of his affliction & gave him a great day of normalcy with his boys. I hope I am as fortunate as he was with my kids when I get toward the end of my journey, whenever that may be. Your in my thoughts & prayers.

Thanks Todd. I started this thread 4.5 years ago and it was reminded to me last weekend when another member here, posted about "remembering our fathers". I just happened to run across this footage and sat in surreal awe. Hearing his voice although brief and seeing him move again is very strange.
