A question of global importance....

Discussion in 'The Tiki Bar' started by Gofirstclass, Dec 21, 2017.

Should the toilet paper unroll toward the front or the back?

  1. ALWAYS toward the front

  2. ALWAYS toward the rear

Well it's winter and that means that many of us are sitting here glumly staring at our 'puter screens while visions of our shrink wrapped boats are dancing sadly in our heads. One fun thing that does come out of the winter doldrums is that some interesting topics hit the boating forums and that lead to some interesting discussions.

So here's my question. And before I get to it, I want you to know that this question has global implications. It's extremely important and I want you to give a lot of thought to your writings that justify your answer.

    So here's the question:

When you put a new roll of toilet paper on the toilet paper holder, should it unroll from the front or the back?

Please make a selection and justify your answer below.

I think it does not matter really with this ingenious device. You can use one side and then flip the roll over and then use the other side.

In the front. That way you can make those fancy-shmancy hotel corners and impress all your boating friends.

From the back. That's how my 'rents did it when I was a little kid and how I've done it since. I don't think that it really matters though! To each their own.

I think that the veterinarian told me once that kittens/cats are less likely to unroll it if it comes out from the back. I'm not 100%, maybe I'm making that up!

You are not imaging things, cats are psychotic little creatures!
Unless you own a cat, unroll from the front.
(Full disclosure: I have one of these cat things but he is about as active a ficus tree so the tp roll is safe)

Also, I believe that over the front minimizes the instances of "Where the (bleep) is the end?" games

We go through it so fast we never put it on the roll! But if I did, in true boater fashion I would alternate between back and front so the roller would wear evenly -- it's a maintenance thing.

My wife says it should roll from the back so naturally, on the rare occasions I replace it I install it to roll from the front.

I always thought it should unroll from the back. This was confirmed the first time it was installed on the boat unrolling from the front. On the
240 Sundeck, the roll is mounted inside the vanity door in the bathroom.

When installed so it unrolls from the front, the roll magically unrolls itself while driving the boat! I found this out when I opened the vanity door and found the paper strewn all about.

Install it so it unrolls from the rear, and presto, now more mess.

(On second thought, I never did check to see if a cat is living in there!)

When toilet paper is manfactured, there is typically a soft side of the paper. Normally facing the outside of the roll. So, if maximum comfort is what your after, you need to insure you fold it properly prior to use so the softest side is towards the skin. But then again, you can choose the cheapest toilet out there and your choices are 80 or 60 grit! And to think there are high paid people that spend there day deciding on how to manufacture your toilet paper. Check out youtube, How It's Made, impressive equipment, 36" diameter rotary saws cutting multiple rows of toilet paper. High speed stuff.

I've always been a "UP FRONT" kinda guy but for some reason, which she can't explain, believes it should be from the back. So naturally I always replace the roll before it's empty and always put it on my way, facing the front.
Mike Sandor, welcome to TF and thank you for that valuable insight on how TP is made. I never knew there was a soft side. Now I'm going to check out of here and head for YouTube to look for those videos.

But that diagram is a view from the back side of the roll.

For some reason I think I remember seeing something on TV about this when I was little and they said because of germs in the bathroom and on the walls that it is best to unroll from the front so the paper doesn't rub along the wall when you pull it. Not sure how true it is or where I heard it but it had to have been about 40 years ago when I heard it.

Unroll from the front or back, or to which side? Never get it installed on the roller? What does it matter when you're using John Wayne toilet paper? Ya'll don't know what John Wayne toilet paper is? John Wayne toilet paper, tough as nails and don't take shit off nobody!!
