Here are a few pics to liven up the Carolinas forum since its been pretty quiet in here for a while.

These are from Lake Jocassee this past weekend. The lake is down a little over 22 feet right now due to the drought, but there's still plenty of water in the lake. Getting a boat in at the ramps may be a challenge soon if the lake drops another foot or two. One of the three ramps has been closed, and my trailer was at the end of one of the two other ramps when we launched.

There's also a pic of our new boat. About a month ago, we traded our 210 Sundeck for a brand new 2006 240 Sundeck. We got a very good deal on it since it was basically a two year old new boat. Its amazing how much the extra weight and 3 feet of hull improves the ride over our old 210SD.

Enjoy.

Them is some loooooong ramps to back down...

Great looking Boat  . Looks a lot like MS Judy. Great pics of the trip too  Boy I thought our lake was done, but that is one long ramp

WOW I wish we had ramps 1/8th that long here. Those are the longest ramps I've ever seen! I have a hard time when the tide is low with our ramps.

You guys certainly get the award for the lowest lake water levels in the Carolinas. Every time I look at Duke Power's web site to check lake levels, I always wonder if your lake is navigable with such a drop. Now I know that it is. It must be a very deep lake. And I guess they expect those kinds of drops too from time to time judging from the length of the ramps.

It sure is beautiful up there. Thanks for the sharing the pictures.

Jocassee is a deep lake. The average depth is probably in the 100-150' range. And there is a large part of the lake near the dam that averages around 200' deep with a few spots well over 300 feet. The water level in Lake Jocassee usually drops about 5-10' over the summer, but not usually this much.

Lake Keowee is downstream of Jocassee right on the other side of the dam. There is a nuclear power plant on Keowee, and Duke Power uses Lake Jocassee and another smaller reservoir above Jocassee to keep water levels up in Lake Keowee for emergency cooling purposes and to protect the municipalities pulling drinking water from Keowee. During the night, Duke uses excess power from the nuclear power plant to pump water back up into Jocassee so they can release it the next day and generate electricity with it.

Nice pictures. I will have to say we in Lake Lure are very lucky. Our lake level at this time may be down a foot at the most. With the town owning the Lake, the dam shuts power down and they wait for the rocky broad river to keep it at level. But that comes at a price when you want to put the boat on their lake.
