I noticed there is no duct work for the return air. Just a grill under the sink with an open area to the coil. Is this common? Should I fabricate some type of vent to allow for proper filtering? Or not worry about because there is limited dust on the water?
Boat is a 1989 340 EC that HAD factory air. All suggestions, help advise or polictical commentary welcome.

Mine just has a vent for the unit also.

My 300 has a filter.

I had to put a new unit in about 3 years ago. For some reason there is a lot of dust-lint on a boat. I made clips and put sponge foam on the A/C unit and clip the filter to it. Since I am in FL I use it alot. I change the filter about once a month. Home depot supplys all the parts.
Not to hard to do ,but if you don't keep the evaporator clean it will slow the air flow down.

Mine is just open air too. But the compartment the A/C is mounted in is closed off on all four sides. There is an access hatch that fits the compartment pretty securely. There is a filter in the grill that catches all the dust which needs to be cleaned.
