Looking at buying my first Sea Ray. 250 sundancer with 500 hours. Just received the survey back. Two items of concern:

1. The forward port is leaking, needs resealed. I assume this is an easy fix with sealant?
2. Elevated moisture readings below the port side of the windshield with good sounds, where there are several cabin lights on the inside of the cabin top. This should be investigated as to whether this is moisture or a concentration of conductors leading to these readings, and repaired if necessary

Item 2 concerns me. How would I investigate and repair? Any help from the communmity would be great. Thanks!

I won't comment on the ease of repair because I haven't done one. However you can use the advanced search feature here on CSR & read dozens of posts about it. In those posts you'll find the right sealant to use.(if nobody chimes in here)

The group of cabin lights & switches is indeed "just below the windshield" portside & I have read that these lights/switches can lead to higher moisture readings. Don't take my word for it. Just something I've read. My 250 didn't have any high readings.

I will welcome you to CSR. I can also say.......Hey, nice first boat!

This would be my question as well. WTF? This is what you PAID the surveyor to determine. Just who does he think is going to "investigate"??
I'm actually a bit astounded by that comment. He should have made the determination as to whether the elevated moisture readings are legit, and if so the extent of damage, course of action and estimated cost of repair. That's what surveyors do...

I have no direct knowledge of how moisture meters work, but by his comment it's related to electrical fields? In any case, it would have been easy enough for him to determine if there's wires bundled under the headliner- you can feel them easily enough.

I wouldn't let him off the hook. Insist on a clarification- all he's done is leave you with questions, and not the information you need to make a decision on the boat.

Thanks, I am going back to the survey in the morning to discuss the mosture reading on the port side.

I did speak with the seller tonight about the starboard port window that is leaking, the seller replaced the gasket in the spring and ripped it a little when he was pulling it out. It did leak a little then stopped. Sounds like it just needs a new gasket and screen?

I appreciate everyone's help, still moving to close this weekend.
