'97 Sea Ray 270 vs. '97 Larson 270

I just purchased a 96 270DA in December and although mine needs a few things - it is no where near the condition of that 270. Sorry it's being shown in that condition because they are really nice boats with a decent amount of room. I couldn't ever let my boat get in that condition!

Good luck with the Larson - it looks really nice and has a good layout.

Thanks a lot, Doug, I really appreciate the free advertisement! NOT.
You guys are vicious, yes thats my boat, and lets address the criticisms from the bottom up, when I pulled the boat on Dec. 15, I powerwashed the bottom (hence the bare spots) then winterized the boat (hence the bit of antifreeze left near the t-stat housing (cleaned up and replaced gasket yesterday, and torqued it back down). I customarily do this and then paint in the spring. Engine is in fine shape, Mobil 1 since new, manifolds and impeller and batteries within the past 2 years.
Yes I was in the middle of painting the drive, its done now and will have new zincs as soon as they come in the mail.
I told you the boat was dirty before you came to see it, hull has been compounder and waxed from the RR down ( 2 hrs work) I imagine it might take me one good Sat to finish detailing it.
Isinglass was all laid flat, I have never had problems doing this with any of my past 4 boats. Any of the panels that needed attention are at the shop for snaps and stitching right now.
I truly am sorry that the boat was dirty, but other than the drive, I hadn't touched the boat since Dec. Maybe you could give me you address and I will stop by unexpectedly to take some photos of you home for House and Garden.
Oh, and sorry, my wife,s cat takes care of the mice!

Well, the world isn't that small, I told him I was a member when he was here taking pix of the boat "for future reference", which is why I was so pissed off to see it here. Embarrassing for me, yes, but bed linens cluttering the cabin, a bit of oil in the bilge, and a leftover 7-11 mayonnaise packet (unopened) wedged in the fridge door don't make a boat neglected. I am amazed that people can make such judgments from looking at a couple of pictures, some of you guys sound like a bunch of women in a sewing circle.
Alas, a little slap in the face did me well, 1.5 days later the boat looks better than it ever has and I have a buyer coming 10 hours tomorrow to (hopefully) drag it back home with them.
To Doug, I hope you enjoy your new boat, but I do hope you looked at more that 2 boats before making the decision, but you sure didn't make it sound that way.

This has to be one of the funniest threads in a long time.

Sorry, I didn't take any pix, no need to fuel the fire. Just for the record the boat hadn't looked better the entire time I owned it. Its on its way to Michigan now, and I'm putting in a purchase order on a 32' Maxum this afternoon. We're having a sock burning party today at my yacht club, so I'm going to tie one on. Happy Easter everybody!

Nautical dog,
I just saw and read this entire post. When I first looked at my boat in November '07, it was in pretty dirty shape. It had really poor windows, some maintenance issues which needed to be addressed, but more than anything, really needed a good cleaning and still does need a compound and waxing.

It was in similar shape visually to the pictures we saw of yours. Mine ended up having a BIII that was shot.

Anyway, my point is that I really wanted the feedback and various perspectives of the members here. I can understand your frustration with the images posted, not by you, which put it into a negative light compared to the Larson.

What Doug was doing is exactly what I did. He wanted the opinions. I would say your boat is a Diamond in the rough, but my offer would reflect that. The red flag that I saw, illustrating neglect was the leaves and condition of the bilge.

Since I just saw this thread, and if he hadn't placed an offer on the Larson yet and if you hadn't been a member coming to the defense of your boat, I would have told him to Bid low contingent on gettnig a survey, then dependant on the findings. I would have also said, as I have found on my boat, some elbow grease and some hard work can get him into a nice boat at a low price.

I'm not sure what your price is/was but I wish you luck, and you don't need me or anyone else here to tell you that a clean well maintained boat will fetch a price close to what you're asking and attract people buying well taken care of, well maintained boats.....and from what we all saw originally that boat wasn't
