Greetings all. I recently acquired a 1992 270 Sundancer. Love everything about the boat, except the fact that it doesn't have AC. I'm trying to ascertain where Sea Ray would have factory installed a unit, as well as the recommended size. I'm thinking that 6000-10000 BTU would work.

There is a storage locker on the port side of the mid berth that seems to be a perfect location. Is this where the factory installed AC was located? There is also a large screwed down plywood cover in the center of the mid berth. Not sure whats under there, as I haven't remover the cover yet. If anyone has the same vintage/model boat with factory AC, I sure would appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!!

It was put inside the forward dinette seat . Sorry don't remember
the BTU's

OEM was likely a 7K BTU, at least it was in slightly newer models like my 1998.
Replacements range from 7K BTU-12K. I did a 10K BTU Mabru Systems - time will tell if I made the right call, but at least they do a lifetime warrantee on the compressor, etc. Dometic took over Cruise-Air - the ECD series is the 'OEM drop-in'/replacement model while the turbo lineup can jump into big $ IMO, and is somewhat hard to decipher what exactly is/is not needed.

Other options exist - MarineAire, Webasto, etc. In general, you'r looking for a 110V, and reverse cycle if you also want heat.

https://www.marinaire.com/Marine-air-conditioner-9000-btu-110V-p/msba9k2.htm - really was liking this but didn't have boat on hand, not positive if it would fit.

You have some choices in the 9K-12K range, but that's generally what people are using. I'm happy with the 10K Mabru I went with so far.

You may need to consider if you also want or need an 'install kit' - basically some ducting (get insulated if doing net new) vents, a return grill, etc. or will piece it together yourself...and a sea pump, strainer and through-hull to feed the HVAC.

Let me know if you want them, I have the plans from Sea Ray for a '91 270 for a complete AC install. The oem unit was 9K btu. I put in a kit from Mermaid Marine Air and it was great. I also like the units from Marinaire.com too, they weren't around when I did the 270.

Here are the scans...

The ac unit goes in the aft seat base of the dinette and that screwed down panel is a compartment for your fresh water tank.
