I was wondering what everyone found to be the main water leaks into the cabin area on these boats. I have a nasty one that is leaving water in the bottom of closet in my stateroom. It looks as though it eventually travels under the galley if heavy enough. I also noticed the previous owner siliconed the windows as well. I am unable to see anything whiles it raining. I would love to know the key spots!

Thanks.
Chris

The windows are the usual suspects on these boats. The frames many need to be removed, weep holes cleaned and channel fabric installed prior to rebedding. The anchor locker may leak but that water should end up in the bilge under the steps and pumped overboard. Leaks around hatches and deck fittings go to the core first and you need to make sure all of those are properly bedded. Silicon around windows is not helpful and indicates a lack of knowlege or committment to proper maintenance by a previous owner.

I have the same problem with my windows on an 86 weekender. I have had the windows flock replace and the windows rebedded by a "professional" company. THEY STILL LEAK HORRIBLY. We literally had to put bowls and a small trash can under the windows to catch the water. He has been out several times to try to fix the leak. Gets worse as time goes by. I done with it and this spring I am caulking the windows completely shut. We have never opened them. No need for the hassel.
This is a common flaw with this style of boat. I hope you have better luck than I have had.

I had the same boat, similar problem, but perhaps not leaking as badly. Turned out to be the deck-to-hull shoebox joint under the rub-rail, but in the same general area as your leak. In places, the shoebox joint is wider than others due to mold imperfections and is only filled with caulking putty. It flexes and dries out over time. Removed the rail, cleaned out the old caulk, recaulked, problem solved. It's hard to find because the water travels up and around the joint under the rail and is not visibly leaking - just seeps and travels to the inside. This may not be your problem, but this fix solved mine.
