Took the old girl for a test run yesterday. I'm a little confused. Came out of the channel and started to power up the throttle and eventually got up on plane and ran around 24 mph on gps. I'm not used to a boat this size and this heavy. When I powered up I brought the rpm's to 4k and to me it seemed like an elephant but once on plane it runs and handles great. My question is I realize this is no sports car but is this normal.

All systems check out fine and the bilges are dry. Am I expecting too much.

Any thoughts.

Sounds normal...did you have to stay at 4000rpm to keep on plane? You should be able to keep it on plane around 3500 or so.

CVSA - Same boat here. I just bought the correct prop - 15.5x15 this summer and can keep it on plane around 3,000 rpm. It tops out about 4400 rpm. I had a 15x17 last summer and it was the prop the PO had on the boat. That prop was a horrible to get on plane and stay on plane. It sounds like you have the opposite issue though... if you're running 4000 rpm and only 24mph you might be under proped or your prop is damaged and cavitating. What were your WOT rpms?

You got up on plane and it ran great. I don't see any problem? As mentioned above, what was your WOT and how fast was it going at that throttle setting? I hit 4,000 all the time when getting on plane and did that with our 250 DA as well. As soon as it's over the hump, throttle back to your cruising rpm. If 4,000 was it then let's talk because something IS wrong. How old is the fuel, when was it last tuned up, has it been in the water or on a trailer, did you have the tabs and drived trimmed, etc....

I was putting around @ 1500 rpm and throttled up to 4ooo and the boat kinda lumbered around a little. Once on plane I was able to back off to 3500 to keep on plane. I did adjust the tabs to trim out a bit. The prop is 15-1/4 x 15p and I have a spare 14-1/2 x 17p. I have 60 gallons of fresh fuel and the engine runs like a sewing machine. All this may be normal.

It sounds fairly normal for the 5.7.

+1 , sounds normal. Mine runs almost the same
(despite my rpm gauge not working, the mph is about right)
