So this past weekend my motor would no trim up. The motor made no sound at all trying to go up, but did work to go down. I fixed the issue as unplugging the power plug and reinserting it. While looking at possible problems I came across these 2 wires that are very brittle and the insulation broke off in my hand and so did the connections. One wire splices to 2 blue wires. One comes form the front of the boat and the other to the trim motor. The other wire splices to a purple wire that leads to the front of the boat. Now the brittle wires are what I call a lamp cord wire, 2 wires connected together, but insulated so they do not short together. Both these wires run and look like they go out the boot to the foot of the motor then back in and connect to the 50AMP fuse mounting bracket. Like they are a ground wire. Everything is working on the boat so what could these wires be?

the black lamp cord wires are your trim limit switch. If you connect the 2 wires blue and purple the trim will work from the control handel for a temporary solution but you must remember not to trim up too far.The 2 wires that go toward the 50 breaker are the trim sender wires for the gauge .One connects to a plastic block and a harness wire, the other goes to ground.

It looks like they connect to the same block. You are saying that they are not both common to ground? I want to replace the wires as they are so brittle the insulation just falls off of them. So I am correct in that they go out the boot to a switch in the foot to stop the trim from going to far? As I mentioned earlier the trim works both up and down from the controls on the throttle. So do I connect the 2 blue wires to the purple wire? I am very electrically knowledgeable just not sure what the wires are for. I am not inboard motor knowledgeable so if I know what to do with the wires I can handle that. Thanks for the input.

So is there any other input on this? Do I need to pull the outdrive so I can replace the wires? As I stated above everything seems to be working fine.
