Hello, new to club sea raay, I am looking at buying a 1984 SEA RAY SUNDANCER with twin merc 4.3 and new canvas $6900. (in nj ) The boat started fine, I just gave it a quick look. All the teak was pretty rough but all in all not bad. The question is what should I really take a good look at. It appears a marine survey will be about $500 so I would like to decide if the boat is worth even having the survey done.

If you are serious about the boat get the survey. You might shop around on that survey price...sounds steep to me....try to negotiate that number with the surveyor. I paid $475 to have my 390 surveyed this year and it took all day.

What size is this boat ? Did you check NADA boat values ? Look at others like this one and compare.

Once you get the survey done you have a good negotiating tool. You will be able to get the cost of the survey back and more on your offer. You can probably buy that boat for $6K or less in this market.

Don't buy the boat without the survey..no way. You might even get the buyer to split the cost with you.
