84-87 390 sedan sportfish owners check in!!

Overland for sure, though not as fun. That would be an awesome trip but lots of gas. LOTS of gas. We get about 0.9 gallons per mile at 21mph. That is per engine so 1.8 per mile. 400 gallons gets consumed quickly. Not sure on the local rates, but we are considering moving up to an aft cabin for the extra room. Shipping from NJ or MD ranges from $4.5 to $5.5 a mile overland. There is a Great Lake thread on this site with some knowledgeable people who would know a lot more about shippers in the area. If you have a home marina in mind, that would be a great place to start asking.

got a shipping quote !
Chicago to Duluth $3500
Of course it doesn’t include the
Dismantle of the arch and load/unload .
Was thinking that’s not too bad , I’ve had equipment hauled from North Dakota for close to that .

That is certainly cheaper than driving her. That would be a great trip, but long and lots of fuel. Shipping overland will be much more cost effective. Does it have the stainless steel tube arch? Mine does and it is not hard to take down if you have a couple of people to help. Not all that heavy, but a bit unwieldy.

Have had my 86 since 2007. Have made a lot of improvements. Gets 12 gph @ 10 Knots. They where made from 83-86 and four made in 87. Talked to one of the people (Steve Jones) in Merritt Island who cut and added 3' to the 36.Love the boat.

I will see the water this year and I will see it while drinking a cup of coffee , listening to the rumble , and feeling the cold summer breeze of Lake Superior on a 390.
The best lead I have so far is by email with a gentleman from our group , sure am hopeful I can secure a deal and bring the boat home !
That pic above is an 87 , there may only be one other as the others were lost in a hurricane .

Can't see the pic. Maybe its me

The pic didn't come up ??

When I was young I worked at a boat shop - Sea Ray , I have been inside and out on these boats .
To be honest as a young worker I never really dreamed of owning one , I know I wouldn’t minded being a mechanic as a career though , I ended up becoming an electrician.
That was in the mid eighties (boat shop) and I think those sparks of imagination and the years since of real life hands on application of farming and living life has put me back to my roots .
I love to hear that those owners of the 390 generally love the boat and keep them for many years , they are a well built boat .

Just reading some of the old treads. My boats came from Sister Bay Wisconsin. The bridge had to come off. The boat hauler was 2" off the ground which made it 13'6" height. And has to be escorted.

did you have it shipped ?
How far did she travel ?
I am hoping to settle a few real estate items and secure the boat sale and shipping .

From Wi to the east coast of Canada. Remove bridge $5600.00 (the would not let me in the yard) Escorted overwidth, 7 days @ $12,700 in 2007. I have a lot of pics and improvements I have made if you want to give me you email. Mine is southside@eastlink.ca. Don

Don, I have yet to find the battery isolator on mine. The manual states it is located on the forward engine room bulkhead but ......nothing. I bought two new alternators and a Pronautic 1230P that will be installed this spring. Yours located at the location the manual states?

I have owned the 1984 Sportfisherman for over 15 years. Great boat. I needed to replace water tank because of rotting out on tank. Minor problems such as fuel gauges not working and that Sam all leak in front window over the sink. Otherwise we enjoy the boat especially when fishing Lake Michigan. A hole lot of room.

Beautiful boat, Headlock. We too cruise the waters of Lake Michigan, Green Bay, Door County and the Western shore of lower Michigan. Ahh, those pesky window leaks. A constant battle.
