8.2 Detroit

in the late 70s vintage...
were they any good ??
any inherant problems ??
How would they perform in a 360 ??

Those 4-stroke Detroit 8.2's didn't enjoy a good reputation, and in communities as small as boating and trucking, reputation is everything. A boat with 8.2's, even if it was one the improved later models, (which would be into the 80's) will be hard to sell.

My neighbor just threw away his set early '80's 8.2's. He was a victim of the bad cyl head design and replaced gaskets almost annually, and his bilge pump was always an environmental distaster waiting to happen. His opinion: "worst engines ever"
