8.1 Parts Shortage

Has anyone else heard that parts for 8.1s are becoming more and more unavailable?
I have heard this from 2 Mecruiser mechanics and a guy that runs a part department.
They are saying that parts are no longer being made for the 8.1s and that there has been incidents where say a crankshaft sensor goes bad and the part was nowhere to be found and kept the boat out of commission for most of the season.

I know 8.1s are not easily rebuilt, and maybe they can not be rebuilt due to the design of the block. It's too bad because they are great engines.
