The seawater pump on my port engine went. My dealer says he ordered the part on 4/27 and it will not be in until 6/4. I can't understand why they can't get it. Called Mercruiser yesterday myself. They told me they thought they could get one sooner. I have lost 3 weeks of good boating already and the season is not that long to begin with. Any suggestions as to where I can get the pump would be greatly appreciated.

I would try Oak Leaf Marina in Old Saybrook CT.
They carry an incredible number of Merc parts.

Call them at 860-388-9817

That is criminal. Aren't you still under warranty with an 05? Something is seriously wrong with the people you are talking to. I'm really curious what went wrong with a pump that new.

If you can pull a part number, I will try to help. There are a couple of ways to pull the number. The best way is to get the engine serial number and enter it into the Mercruiser site:

http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/ProductSelection/ServiceParts/sphome.asp?CID=

Enter your engine serial number there and check the parts availability (you can also do it the old school way and call them). If you are having a problem with the link, post your engine serial number and one of us will do it for you.

Yes I am still under warranty. Waiting to hear back from dealer today. If they cannot get the part from Merc, I will begin calling around to the centers listed by merc as their express parts dealers. thanks for the info. I will keep you posted

The boat is fixed and back in her slip. Mechanic said he could not tell what went wrong. he just changed it and crawled out of the engine compartment. (very tight down there). Good thing is that it was covered by warranty. Now it is time for some boating.....

Not sure what the deal is with 8.1 water pumps on mercs but this is an issue with Crusaders. Both of mine developed problems at 250 hours which was outside of the warranty. Crusader uses a new design now that is supposed to last much longer. Still they will not warranty them as they consider them to be a "wear item" that should be replaced as a part of routine maintenance. That's a crock in my view as I have never had one fail before in 40 years of boating.
