How does the exhaust routing work? I know that when I crank and idle, the exhaust routes out the side ports. I also know that I have exhaust ports out the bottom (right?).

So, are the side ports supposed to close at speed? Does the exhaust just overwhelm their size and begin to go out the bottom too at speed?

How does it work? At cruise, I can hear the engines roar when I lean over the sides at the stern.

The sides are a bypass. When standing still most of the exhaust will come out of the bypass. As you get moving the majority of the exhaust will get drawn out of the underwater exhaust openings.

Thanks, J.

After observing the schematics, that's what I came up with.

The ehaust goes from the engine into the lift mufflers and they have two exits, one to the side exhaust with a smaller hose and the main to the underwater port. When idling around most goes out the side since it is the path of least resistance. Goin on plane the side ehaust still has full flow .... I know because I lookied once while my wife was driving ... but most exhaust goes out of the bottom. There is nothing that regulates between the two ports, except back pressure
