77 ray exhaust

I don't think that is nearly as important as figuring out the best way to handle the exhaust.

I believe Sea Ray was still learning about bigger boats in t he late 70's and your exhaust was "in-line", for lack of a better description. That put the exhaust system and connection at or below the waterline in some situations. If it were me, I would investigate changing to some type of lift style muffler with the outlet well above the waterline and only one hose between the muffler and the exhaust outlet.

anyone know how the exhaust came from the factory on this boat. mufflers.????????????
It depends on what engine you have. If you have an OMC on the 77 unless you have a leftover 76 year the exhaust comes thru the prop. No mufflers. I have a 73 with OMC electric shift. The exhaust comes out of the center of my trim fin, but like the 77 and up below the waterline.

that,s what i was thinging. i think the in-line set was an after thought when they designed this boat. i have the folks at centek on speed dial. they are making the crossover tubes that come off the risers. i have used them in the past and they do great custom work.

I have a 1977 25' Sea Ray SVX240 with the OMC 800 and my exhaust goes directly out of the prop (two large black flexible hoses)....

sorry i should have stated i have twin inboards. the exhaust comes out the rear under water on the port and starbord side. i'ts an odd set up that i have never seen before. by the way did you get your steering to go straight????

Yea I did wick... Thanks for asking. I purchased a new trim tab (the old one must have broken off) and have installed it. I am waiting for the weather to break and bring my boat out of winterization... Once I'm on the water I will try and adjust the tab.. Good luck on your exhaust...

Hi Mike,

I have some pictures on the sight from when I was refurbing it. There are no mufflers and I can send some pics of my 1978 exhaust. It comes out the bottom on each side and both engines dump into one tube the out the side to just above the water level. If the hull didn't have a slight bend up it would have been under the water level. Jay (jffacets)
