73' SRV 240 Repower in progress

I figured I'd update my progress. I have gotten my Powersteering settup home now. I paid the guy an additional C note to take it to a buddy of mine trucking thru VA inroute to PA. About 120 miles from my house. The guy was dragging his feet getting me a quote for UPS. My buddy took it to PA where my GF meet him and put it in the trunk of my Cadillac. Now it is sitting on my garage floor and I can't wait to get home to get the thing on the engine and in the boat. Still need to get more parts but at least now I can order them online. Now is where the fun stuff begins.

Just an update on this project. The last post from me was back in 2009. Not long after that I posted this

I was working on the outdrive and hoping to get the thing in the boat and running. However in my life storm clouds were fast approaching and I knew it. I mention in the post about a re-ring kit in my Ford truck. I was also getting ready to move out of that rented house in PA since work was slowing and my then girlfriend's addiction was out of control and she would be soon getting kicked to the curb.

Well since then I moved to Wisconsin, closer to our terminal and since I drive tractor trailer, that gets me home regularly. I have been lucky and determined to never loose my stuff in a breakup and a move. I still have the old 73'. I have a shop there 36x63 with a 14x14 door. Its for the Peterbilt but the boat fits in too.

Many changes since then. I am now with a good friend that I knew before I was married. We were friends for 16 years and when she left her ex, we tried things out and it was like this is how things should have always been. Very supportive of me and the things I do. Sulportive in not only how I earn a living, and live life. But also deeply involved in our hobbie projects that include now way more than the boat. Custom cars, RVs and boats to name a few. And to top it off she is gorgeous too.

We got into another boat project too. A 78 SRV200. Posted here.

We got that project started and I got distracted in my kids lives. Desparate to get this one running before the went jome for the summer, we pushed and work slowed some making it not possible. The following year my sons got involved in Jr. Dragracing. So the boats sat while a pair of dragsters arrived.

I finally made 2 goals happen in my life this year. The first is getting the Peterbilt and trailer paid off. The second was taking the family south for winter break and out of the cold. We went to Key West with the Motorhome. We towed our car there with us and barely used it. We did however rent a boat while down there. So now everybody is saying to me "It would be better if we had one of your boats running Dad..."

So now I ask my crew, which one. They shrug there shoulders and say they don't care. So now they are outside burried in the snow. The 73s engine sits in the shop waiting for me to get the new brackets put on for the new power steering setup I got for it and to be set in the boat. But then the boat needs tons of little things after that. The 78 is pretty much ready to go. Boat wise. Now the engine block is done and ready to be built. I have a wishlist of go faster parts to be bought along with a complete thru hull exhaust kit from Stainless Marine.

But now as a strong family and all wanting the same thing and now some extra cash from being debt free, now we are sticking to the plan and getting projects done around here. So thankful for the boat I rented to show them how much fun there is out there and for this site to show them what can be done with old boats with some TLC and creativity.
