60 DA Makeover

Sure would be nice if they used "smurf tube" o some other sort of raceway for their AV component wiring. It would then be easy to replace cabling to upgrade as technology progresses. This would add minimal (very minimal) cost for the installation but retrofits would be so simple, anyone could do it.

This 60 makes our 450 look tiny and I thought it was a ton of white real estate to polish and wax! Kudos for being so involved. The smurf tube is something I brought up to dad when we were discussing upgrading the TVs in his boat. I agree it would be minimal cost and could be a great selling feature for forward compatibility.

Ken,Ryan,Nick... Thnx for your input. This TV upgrade project started by default. The picture/reception was as good as it gets, from my perspective. Some CSR member was going through a personal physical trauma ( can't recall who ), so I didn't bring up an accident I had the same day on the boat two months ago.
Due to the boat being " opened up " everywhere, including hatches !... You know where this going, So I'm carrying this brand new 20 gal. water heater carefully down the salon steps, yup, down the hatch I went. One leg bottomed out in the utility floor below, before the " Danger Zone ", I fell backwards hitting my head on the stainless handrail and barely missing a low profile cabinet. I impaled myself on the steel " L " WH mounting bracket. Letting go of the WH and grabbing my stomach, I was convinced my guts where going to spill out. Keeping my composure , like someone saw me doing something so idiotic, I crawled out of the hole to survey the damage to me and the interior....nothing !! I was shocked. Weeks go by, now it's time fire up systems. The Solon TV ( next to open hatch ) looked like a bomb went off it, yup , a tiny....I mean a tiny nick in the screen. So, a Long story Long, I'm finding TV technology advancements are problematic for boat cabinetry & wiring. A $12K HD antenna upgrade.... Not happening. Thnx for your patience...Tim

I just read through this entire thread and WOW I can't wait for the interior pictures and may just run down to Annapolis to see the boat with my own two eyes.
I agree with everyone on the washing and waxing. My boat is only a 40 footer but it is for ever and a day to do the 2W's. I can also say that I have had three shoulder surgeries 1973 - Germany, 1984 West Point and 2002 at Johns Hopkins and when I polish with the buffer my left shoulder is nothing but grinding. So Wed I go see the surgeon about replacing the shoulder and then find someone to do the polishing.

Good luck with the boat she looks great. When I get back from NY I think I'll pop down for a look.

Mine wasn't quite as bad. I was hurrying down into the cabin while the hatch above the sumps was off, slipped with wet feet on the step and ended up with my bare foot hitting one of the sumps. Split it open (the sump not the foot luckily) and had to grab my epoxy to seal it back up. That lasted pretty well but replaced both sumps early this year just because and for good measure installed a cross-over to minimize overflow into the bilge if one pump doesn't fire up.

It is a 650DA, Hull #1 is in PD&E, engines in place and hull is being rigged now. I understand it will be followed by a 650DB based on the same hull. Don't look for anything bigger anytime soon because the ceiling heights in the present facilities will not allow lifting and mounting the decks on anything much bigger than a 65.

Maybe they shouldnt have sold the building next door....That was where they were going to build the aforementioned 75 - I remember seeing exterior renderings of it too.

So.... A very close friend says, I'm splitting firewood this past Mon. I "sez" you had a double bypass, what are trying to do ? Subsequently, splitting it was, for yesterday... Picked up props today, found out port prop was almost a 1* out. Lapped both.....removed both... Cleaned both.... Wasn't satisfied with Stbd lap... Second lapping normal. Ignore the " nut sequence ", I prefer to torque props with the " Big Nut ", Don't go there, keep it clean,....then swap sequence for completion. Didn't have time tonight. The Prop Speed " luster " is a bit dull due to sun angle & dust. For what is worth, I never " block the the prop " with wood when I torque. Rubber anti-chafe around the shaft below the engine with your favorite red wrench then, " have at it " at the tapered end of the shaft.....Tim

Here's an update on my progress.....I moved the speakers & lights to the outside. Did additional " tying in " of the plywood substrate to the framing of the headboard. The mirror/glass guys just finished the install this afternoon. Very professional and careful.....
Got the props torqued down with my " new best friend ".... Need to find a new tool box :smt017
Stay tuned , Tim

Do you have a before picture?

PS... As you can see, with the 10 watt sconce lights " on ", the pic is overwhelmed. The 60 DA came w/ 30 watt bulbs in the 20 watt fixtures. I removed all 4 sconces in the boat and put in 4G pin receptacles to accommodate 10watt bulbs. The 30 & 20 watts were too bright in the day light & way too hot.... Much softer now w/o having to go to potentially problematic rheostats....Tim

Very nice but your switch plate is crooked, your headliner looks dirty, there is a small scuff on your built-in cabinet and your mirrors will always make it look like you're having a 5-way! Actually, what a beautiful boat.....congrats!

Agreed! You took an already beautiful boat and made it georgous and your own I like following the thread for the pics. Well done

It's a bit confusing walking into the Master now. There are so many of me looking confused like me. Maybe I can get the rest of those handsome devils to help finish up.
Finished most of the prep work for the Prop Speeding Application tomorrow, hopefully finish that off the list ! Tim

Wow! That is some "BOAT". Beautiful! Never Say Never, people...

Thanks for the comments, I'm headed to the " office " shortly to start prepping shafts, struts, rudders, trim tabs etc for Prop Speed application. The Interior is still a mess....tools, boxes, etc. I'll post when able. In the mean time, here is part of the team. I've done the entire boat before, paint & polish. But my rotator cuff can't take 100 % of that abuse anymore. 4-5 guys 1 1/2 days to wash, buff & wax, couldn't have done it w/o their help !

Good luck with the Prop Speed. I had it done for about $800 and it didn't last even 1 year before the shafts and hubs loaded up with barnacles. Had it done in May/12. In February/13 everything was still clean. But by July/13 with the warm weather, the barnacles were back.

Interested to see how long the coating lasts for your boat.

Jacob, really good to hear you chime in. Things got delayed today in more preparations.....I hope to make more progress tomorrow. TV set frame work got involved today as well....
So... Prop Speed Reps used my boat 4 yrs ago as a test bed. Looked great going in the water. 10 months later coming out, not very impressive. Subsequently, I did the ENTIRE process myself. The boat was in a highly nutrient environment marina in FL. Really unsatisfactory results . It was sitting for an extended period of time, so I gave some benefit of the doubt to the manufacture ( Prop Speed ). This time, I've taken additional steps to ensure a positive end result. I'll post pics w/I 2 days of the finished process. It's a painstaking task, labor intensive, but since I'm doing the labor and I get a discount on Prop Speed, it's a little more palatable.... Tim
