What the FRICK!!??

There, I vented.......
edit: Actually tonight through tomorrow to be exact - 40mph winds too

I had to click on this to make sure you aren't in Michigan, although were not to much better. Cutting the shrink and installing the canvas between the 40 degree rains this weekend. Hoping my detail guy can get it done towards the end of next week so I can launch on the 23rd. Fingers Crossed

Got to golf last night, it was about 75. We stand a chance of hitting 80 in Cleveland today. By Monday, highs will be in the 30's.

Major freezing rain forecast for Southern Ontario, more snow up north, and change over to a lot or rain. No sign of true spring.

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to
14 inches are possible, with the highest totals likely
occurring in far northeast Wisconsin. Strong winds are also
likely.

* WHEN...From Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light snow is expected tonight, but only
1 to 4 inches is anticipated. A lull in the precipitation will
occur before the brunt of the storm arrives late Saturday.

We went on a friends boat yesterday for a ride. 83 degrees. Snow and freezing tomorrow night. This is crazy.

CANCEL all this above post.....Hopefully I can do it next weekend.. Crazy spring.

Is that Houghton/Hancock?

4.5 hours digging myself and the neighbors out yesterday........and I have an 8hp 2 stage snow thrower. Everything hurts and I'm grouchy. Mike's post of the Robin fits my mood.

Is that Houghton/Hancock?
The weather forecast is the area I live in 100 miles south. We ended up getting a good 16" of snow. One more big snow and I'll have to get a endloader in to push back the snow banks but when I look ahead at forecasts I don't think it'll happen.

That picture is of Houghton/Hancock bridge. Hard to believe that in about 3 weeks I'll be passing under that bridge with the boat. With this erratic weather I'm not looking forward to bringing the boat over to Houghton. Normally when the boats is launched I check it over, fire up, fuel up, do a couple mile test run and then head across, usually with following seas. This year is off to a wacky start, I don't know if things will go that smooth.

Last fall when I took the boat to Bayfield the forecast was for a sunny 'calm to 2' trip, instead I hit nasty squall after squall all the way, the end of that lake really got stirred up bad. I was already out there and had no choice but to keep going, not fun at all. I used to pull out in Oct, last year I hauled out in late Sept, I may go earlier than that this year. This is always my first and last ride of each season.

We received a nice 12" Saturday & to add insult, after I snow blowed, I woke up this morning with more drifts....

I snowmobile with buddies up there & have always wanted to boat in the area and to Copper Harbor. It would be a pretty long and rough trip in my Weekender though. Beautiful area!

Yes, last year was pretty bad weather wise. I do most of my boating around the Apostles and launch out of Cornucopia. We boated up there 2 weeks last Summer & probably were on the water half of that. To much rain, swells, North Easters, & cold.....worst year I've had there boating. I paid for a slip to watch the boat get rained on. Hopefully this Summer will be better.

I don't know what it is, but sometimes when I hit the turn by Raspberry Island heading toward Bayfield, I get hit by southerlies even though there a slight Northwest on my end...That lake is a sea........

When I had my 200BR I'd run it from Houghton to the Huron Islands(35mi), to Lac LaBelle(55mi). You also have the inland water about 26mi from N to S entrys and another 8-9mi off that up to Lake Linden. There's a nice beach by the S entry and another real nice one 8mi across Keweenaw Bay. I never ran it to Copper Harbor, if you go out the N entry(the shortest way) you're exposed to the west winds and if you come from the other side you never know what you'll find going around the tip of the peninsula. You ought to trailer over and spend a week exploring the area.

Woody, do you live in the U.P? I am curious as to why you winter your boat in Bayfield?
Although I would enjoy the trip from Michigan to Bayfield twice a year.

I slip the boat on the Keweenaw Waterway but live in WI. The smaller boats I would trailer home for the winter but the 420DA I store indoors/heated in Bayfield area.

The run across is nothing special in good weather, I set the autopilot and then try to keep from falling asleep. It's not that I mind making the trip, it's the time of the year I'm doing it in.

Just got an e-mail about boat launch schedule. 'Hi, we are currently iced in and snowed in. At this point launch looks to be mid to late May...if weather permits. I'll keep you posted.':(

global warming...crazy

That's why they now call it "climate change". Global warming is the overall average temp of the globe increasing. Climate change is the impact around the world of that effect. Scientists have been saying for years that one of the effects of global warming is more volatile weather patterns, more significant weather events, changes from what was "normal" etc. and all that goes with it.

(I am NOT getting into whether it is caused by humans, just talking about the climate impact.).
