58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

I feel like the traditional way of tying off on a cleat does not work on these larger split cleats,

Yes, it works. Our standard cleat hitch -- on any horn cleat -- starts with a full 360° round turn, though... then figure 8 to lock. Don't know about starting with a 180° round turn, if you're doing it that way; we just don't do that.

You probably know, but differences are illustrated here:
How to Cleat a Line: Three Ways | Expert Advice - YouTube

You can also lay a pre-spliced cleat through the split, and then return over the ears, ditto like working with a standard horn cleat that has a "hole " under the middle.

But I'm a bit baffled by an extra flap of material that hangs down from starboard panel #3 -- the one that turns the corner and straddled the cockpit gate. It has female snaps installed, nothing mates up with anywhere on the hull or the gate -- so no clue what it's for or what to snap it to.

Chris -
Mine has snaps on the top of the door. I'm flying up from Florida to Chattanooga tomorrow to check boat heaters (it's going down to 11° Friday night!!), and I'll get a picture for you.

Thanks, Carter, that was enough of a good hint to help me figure it out. Sure enough, snaps on top of the door at both ends. The flap connection is just all backwards and upside down from what I was expecting. :)

Chris - you’ve got it. I snapped a couple of pictures last night at dusk.

My Starboard snap is on the right side (hinge side) of the door; the port snap is on the fixed part or the transom where the latch latches to the transom

let me know if you want my crummy pictures!

Has anyone tried to go under the north ocean bridge to enter the Dania beach municipal marina.

With antennas down, the highest point on ours is the anchor/steaming light. A couple bridge tenders along the AICW have told us it looked to them like we're at about 19½' with that up. (I'm not convinced.)

The "Basic Boat Dimensions and Clearances" diagram says 18' 3-7/8" from waterline to top of hardtop. Then it shows anout 1' 4-7/8" from top of hardtop to top of KVH dome/radar array.

Which is a little over 19½'. And then our anchor/steaming light is another 6" (?) higher than the top of the KVH/radar array. Comes close to 20' total. The light can be lowered. PITA.

That's a long way round to saying if a bridge is 21' clearance, I'm worried about it. And of course lowering the three VHF antennas (two VHF, one AIS) is a pain in the neck. Well, actually, lowering isn't so hard; getting them back up right is the more difficult part.

If you don't have anything higher than OEM installation, by lowering the mast light you have a slight chance getting under at dead low tide (assuming you get extra 2.5'-3'). Tide table shows only about a bit over 2', but from my observation it has to be more, you just around the corner from the inlet. You'll need a good spotter to alert you if you're not making it. Be ready to bail out at any point. Make sure no other boats are passing at the same time. You get a wake, you're done.

I hope it's worth the trouble. Good luck and be careful.

I am in the process of replacing mfds on my 2013. Unfortunately I’m wintering 3 hours away from the boat so making the time to work on it is limiting. I got started last weekend and I’m installing Axiom XL 16 inch and it came with a new GA150. I got on the hard top and there are two 150 looking units already on roof with no markings on them but they are same shape and size. I’m the 3 rd owner and my PO had installed Axiom 9+ that I am replacing. Any thoughts if these are old gps units or not? Sorry couldn’t find any pictures.

These are the various mostly curre t gps antenna's. You probably have an RS 130, which was the precursor to the RS150. Should be an easy swap if that's the case.

You can also connect your axiom to seatalkng/nmea2000 and go to the devices in the system setup. It will list all the devices on the network.

Thanks for your response. I have looked at the system set up and it doesn’t show any gps at all. I’m assuming those aren’t even connected. I’ll just run the new 150 and start fresh.

You can use any NMEA 2000 GPS antenna with your Axiom (Raymarine, Garmin, Simrad, etc). I'd recommend using NMEA 2000 as that GPS data will be available for any instrumentation on your SeatalkNG (NMEA 2000) network. For example I use that NMEA 2000 GPS data for the Anchor Drag alarm I have on the boat which is separate from the navigation system.

Are the axiom mfd’s you are removing 12” units. I’m looking to replace my failing E120’s If your looking to sell them let’s make a deal.

Hey! I just bought an axiom plus 12 for my 580 and Raymarine Radom. I’m kicking myself that I didnt just go with the Garmin screen to match the other one I already had an should have done the Garmin Radom. I would be open to selling those and putting in my Garmin if you had interest in talking about them? I dont have anything against Raymarine but didnt realize the replacement stuff didnt work with my older Raymarine items and could have just matched my Garmin. let me know and we can connect. Thanks!

Master head and Guest head fan question…..just to confirm….when i turn on the fan for the master head it also turns the fan on in the guest head and vice versa. is this actually correct or could someone have wired this wrong long before we bought the boat? Also, has anyone ever replaced the fans with newer quieter fans ( can that even be done?)? Thanks!
