I was going to post mine:

WALNUT INTERIOR

My dock mate's has your interior option and it is the veneer that peels. Mine does not appear to be veneered.

That 410 era laminate was just that - fake wood-grain image laminated with plastic. The newer interiors like our 58’s are real wood veneer over particle board and or plywood depending on the area. Some of the newer veneers were prone to lifting, cracking and peeling off the base material. Not all boats have this problem so I wonder if it was a bad batch from a supplier?

I think it's the owner. It seems to me that the boats that are climate controlled all year long and don't swing to temperature/humidity extremes interior wise have few problems with the interior finishes.

The 2008 58 has real wood laminate. The issue was the clear coat they put on top of it did not stick long term. My boat has been in Florida since 2010 and has AC running 24/7. We have white Stamoid window covers for the windshield and both side windows. The aft curtains are always on when we are not traveling. Absolutely zero light can get it. I suspect what was mentioned earlier that it is just bad chemicals in the clear coat. I believe that is why Searay gave us the material. By the way, this was not a covered event with the Brunswick extended warranty.

Fortunately the '06 and subsequent 58DB's have real wood finished woodwork - not the laminate veneer that peels off...
I looked at plenty if 2005-2007s that had veneer issues. This particular boat has a few spots of cloudiness but it’s better than most that I looked at from that period

Thanks Ken. I was obviously "off track" on this issue...

I agree climate control and protecting the wood from high humidity and wide temperature fluctuations help significantly.

I also think Sea Ray did not vet/test these laminates properly knowing 80/90% of boat owners layup their boats each winter. I also understand they subbed out these products but that does not limit their responsibility.

Just sayin...

@missnmountains was your cabinets delaminating or was the finish getting cloudy? We have looked at boats with only one or the other and one that has bad delamination and slight cloudiness. Not sure how or if they are related?

Also @missnmountains, did you replace all of the veneer at that time or just where it was needing repair?

I do like hearing that at least the veneer is real wood, gives me some hope that if the veneer doesn't delaminate that the cloudy finish could be stripped and re-applied?

As I stated earlier, the clear coat on the cabinets was delaminating. The wood laminate that was attached to the cabinet held strong. The installer replaced about 85%. Not all was delaminating. I have all of the extra material stored. If there is additional delamination, we can have it fixed. It has been 7 years now and none of the new material has delaminated so I suspect they fixed the problem.

We do have some solid corners that have clouded slightly, but I don't feel it is a big deal.

If you were happy with the work would you mind sharing who did it?

I have had zero issues on my 2005. My trim package is satin finish. I’m beginning to believe that the main issues with failure pertain to the high-gloss finish separating from the stained veneer.

Mine is a dark satin as well...

The survey went reasonably well 2 weeks ago and we finally agreed on a number this week and signed the acceptance letters on Thursday, hopefully closing by this Friday. As some of you stated the boat is almost due for a 1000 hour service which I'm going to have done once I close on the boat. A few other major items on my punch list are as follows any suggestions please advise.

1) 1000 hour service
2) Replace rusted and inoperable windlass, does anyone know what model is a direct replacement?
3) Remove the outriggers and repair holes in the fiberglass
4) The previous owner installed new Garmin MFDs, however, removed the radar so any input on a Garmin radar open array vs dome.
5) Replace existing Raymarine autopilot with Garmin for a seamless interface
6) Determine the source of air horn leak as others have experienced
7) Trim tabs Inoperable no fluid in the reservoir
8) Replace generator battery charger
9) Complete engine room detail
10) Need new steering wheel
11) Develop a WIFI system with cameras and security system

Robert - keep in mind there is no "1000 hr" service with CRM-900's. The mechanical MANs did have a 1000 hr service requirement. With CRM's there is a two year/400 hour service that does the HEs and charge air coolers. Valves are adjusted at 400 and 800 hours and every 800 after that. Risers last about 10 years in salt water.

I have had three brokers exclaim - all maintenance up to date they did the 1000 hour service early at 700 (or 800 or 900) hours! One actual broker with a bit of knowledge that admitted the boat had had zero maintenance done to until a couple of months ago when they dumped $70,000 into new heat exchangers, turbos, intercoolers etc. I stopped listening as he just got done explaining all the other $50,000 worth of things that were known to be needing replacement but they hadn't done.

Robert, congrats on the purchase, where are you keeping your boat?

Same story here I’m not to fond of brokers I looked at a bunch of boats and it was the same story. I finally dealt with an owner that was willing to accept his boat needed a major service and was willing to reduce the cost to a point where my risk/reward was minimized if it don’t need anything major. I will be boating out of montauk in the summer and someplace in south Florida for the winter no firm plans yet.
