Hi folks, Paul from Key West here. I have decided to upgrade from my 30 ft. center console and purchase a bigger boat. I started out looking at the 450 EB, then the few more feet itis set in. Thought I found the one in a 480 DB, then I saw the 560 and I was done. Survey and sea trial are set for Friday and I'm pretty excited. I obviously have a lot to learn, from proper piloting to the many systems on board. I found the 480 DB thread, is there one for the 560?

Good luck and welcome. Not sure if there's a 560 thread or not but there's a ton of information to be found on this site. If the sale goes through you'll become a regular for sure.

I rejected the 560 after sea trial and survey. It was a long and trying day. Boat would not start, bag of 30 amp fuses next to starters was a clue, my surveyor replaced the fuses and she started. Engine room was notable for multiple rusty/corroded nuts, bolts and fittings, particularly the exhausts. We got about 2 miles before port engine started throwing high temp alarms, so we cruised to the haul out at 1800 RPM or less. Generator not working, salon got pretty warm on a typical Florida day, bridge A/C was inop on generator or shore power and only had one vent for the entire bridge, puzzling. Several stains in the staterooms from leaky windows/portholes and water was dripping from the overhead cockpit puck lights when boat was running. Haul out revealed more bad news- bottom paint worn everywhere, lots of blisters and multiple dead spots on percussion testing. Also NO zincs, badly corroded through hulls and barnacles nearly blocking the bow thruster. After putting in a second set of fuses she started again and we returned to port. On the plus side, the Fusion/Wet Sounds stereo was awesome and working great, gave me some insight into owner's priorities. Boat clearly needs a lot of work and even at a discounted price was not for me. The search continues....

Do the future boat buying world a favour and post the wording from that 560s advertisement to go along with your reality survey.

Boat has been taken off market per broker while owner decides what to do. I don't recall exact wording of ad, but no mention of any defects. Pre-contract, broker did tell me electronics would need replacing and that boat needed a good detail and some minor repairs. Boat was obviously not ready for sea trial or survey, I doubt anyone had been below decks for some time. I'm a bit chapped at the $3K I spent, but I did spend 5 hours with the surveyor and learned enough to evaluate the next one by myself before deciding to proceed to contract. I'm looking at a 480 Sedan Bridge tomorrow....

Yikes did you go under contract site unseen?

Look at the bright side....that $3K might have been the best money you ever spent when you consider how much buying THAT boat might have cost you.

You learned a lot about how to evaluate a boat.

When you get to contract, survey phase it will cost the buyer some money. I couldn’t do a contract withou being on the boat.

I am not a suveryor, or have that depth of knowledge. But I can decide whether I want spend more.

Hope the 480DB works out for you. In my opinion, they are great boats. This is our 7th season with ours and I just love operating the boat.

Sounded like an older boat and honestly at that age of a boat in that condition a visual inspection I would have walked when I got there and saved the $3k.
Especially if it didn’t start and your replacing fuses. Gees.

Yes, I put it under contract sight unseen. I'm not sure I would have seen the issues with a casual walk through as almost all were below decks and on the bottom and I'm a novice big boat buyer. Not starting would have been a red flag, but could have been explained away as a dead battery or two. Certainly my mistake to assume that a nice looking yacht could be so neglected, and I should have taken the short flight from Key West to Tampa to check before writing a check.
