500/520 DB official thread

Interesting. Mine is the original 2001 system. Had a tech guy come on board for a look see. He's sure I can get a Ditech tv box add on that can be charged through my home account. One time purchase of a control box plus a $7 monthly charge when in use. Seemed like a reasonable solution till I chatted with the local marine direct tv guy. There's a lot of compatibility issues that can only be addressed with eyes on.
I'm kind of with Charles; ain't doing this boat thing to watch tv. Fact is I'm seriously thinking of going with just one tv in the salon. Convert the state room tv holds to storage.

I agree it is important on these engines. EGT monitors are on the list for me for one of this winters projects

Have you decided on which EGT monitor to install? I have looked at a couple.

Does anyone know what size sensor is needed 1/4” or 1/8” for the QSM11?

This unit is $360

Or maybe the easier to read digital and probably more accurate.

I can’t zoom in on the pics of those
Devices above that you posted to see what they are.
I don’t want to add an analog gauge so I am going to try these.

I have a N2k backbone in the engine room already so this would be a relatively easy install for me provided the sensors will fit the manifold/turbo EGT fitting but I haven’t looked into that yet. I have their air temp sensor installed and it worked fine all season.

Updated my post enlarging the pictures. I do like the Yacht Devices version mostly because it is Nema 2000.

Has anyone else used this Yachtd model?

I assume you will need to drill the exhaust flange?

Look into the Maretron TMP100 with a couple of their TP-EGT-1 probes. The good is the TMP100 has a total of six channels which two are dedicated for high temperature (EG) and four for other environmental like air temperature or liquid temperature.

Thanks, I will check it out.

Thanks for the info and I will follow with them!

I bought a pair of Hurley exhaust guards and had a diver try to install them. He wasn’t able to, partially due to the generator exhaust cut out on the port side, and partially because the starboard one wouldn’t stay in place.

I'm going to get a quote to have some fabricated, but I'm also wondering if I could install them in the aluminium exhaust tube, accessible from the engine room.

Any other suggestions?

I took mine out when I was out of the water last winter and cleaned them up and put them back in. I understand that they diver may have had some trouble putting them in. I had a little trouble myself on land as the exhaust outlet is not an exact circle and where it comes out of the boat it comes at an angle. It took me a bit of fiddling with them but I did get them to fit and they stayed in place all season (120hrs). I put the one on the port side (genny exhaust side) back in further to a point where it cleared the genny exhaust outlet better.
On my boat there is a silicon coupler just after the exhaust outlet and before the exhaust muffler so if you put them up in the metal pipe you wouldn't be protected at this point or the joint where the exhaust is connected to the metal pipe.

Is everyone's dinghy up tight almost against the transom locker? Can the davits be pushed "sternward" enough to make the locker accessible? Curious. It's why we never use the locker.

I have room but I have hydraulic swim platform. Dingy doesn't overhang form hydraulic platform to fixed portion so I have about 2-3ft to walk.

No extended platform and we have a Novurania 11’ and it hampers opening the transom locker if I really need to get in there I need to deflate one tune a bit
Davits are as far back as possible
For this reason I only keep my water softener in there.

Anyone got a line on the rudder angle displacement sending unit. It's a Teleflex 15028471. The negative pole on mine is shorting out, internal corrosion I'm thinking. Anyway, can't find a replacement part. Teleflex is a dry hole, been out of production for years. I tried wiring in a different rudder angle sender from another manufacturer; wouldn't work. Not sure why. Bottom line; any ideas on how to get a new OEM sending unit or how to retro fit a Simrad unit in its place

Contact all the local Marine electronics installer you can as they have a tendency to hang on to good working parts & equipment or can probably tell you who does!

Done a little of that. Local guys are scratching their heads too. Though I had one from a supplier in Wisconsin. Wouldn't you know it I was a day too late. Guess I'm not the only guy with an inoperative rudder guage.

Would think I could use another transmitter but that didn't work. There is some kind of magic to that fix that I haven't figured out.

View attachment 63305 View attachment 63306 View attachment 63307 Making some progress today. I got the New Vessel View 703 installed and wired in. I wanted the touch screen and updated look to go along with the rest of the new electronics I will be installing. Plus the VV703 comes with VV link so I can push the data to the new Axiom XL 16s I will Be I stalling.

Has anyone else replaced their Vessel View? Seaboard Marine has an article (see below link) about the lack of support with the Smart Craft/Cummins system suggesting it is overly complicated to trouble shoot and not stable in the marine environment. I suspect they are promoting replacement system, SMX System but maybe there is some merit to it. The article also says there are conflicts with the upgrade.

Jeremy have you or anyone else had conflicts with this upgrade?

Side note - I do have a intermittent issue with the starboard engine dropping the gauges while running but more often the starboard engine cuts off a minute or two after start up.

I did mine as well with the vv703. It works fairly well. No issues.

Where did everyone buy the new VV703?
