500/520 DB official thread

That's awesome! Thanks!

Looks the same but not sure if it’s the same size. Maybe they will custom size if not. Pricey though.

It interesting that it seems like most of you are burning less fuel than I do at a given RPM and are getting a few more MPH as well. I have the 800lb tender sitting on the swim platform. Also it is a hydraulic platform so there is probably a couple hundred pounds there too. Maybe that hurts my numbers?

Jeremy your 2008 also has a longer running surface than our boats. Which may account for some of the difference.

Jeremy:
Question - On your VV, the chart on the left side where you show the GPH for each engine. Does that tend to disappear randomly for you? If I want mine to show, I have to select the table every so often for some reason. It never just stays showing.

Spoke to Mercury today. They said their test bed VV703 has the same issue with the "Mercury Tab" automatically hiding. They said they would put it in for a software patch. Wonder how long that will take...

You may be correct but I would think the longer running surface would help the buoyancy which would get the boat higher in the water which in turn would help reduce drag. That being said I am not even close knowing anything about that so I may be way off base.

Looking for some replacement Rub Rail about 12' or so. I understand ours were made by Taco Marine. Doesn't look like they make it anymore. I have emailed them, awaiting a response.

OEM Part -

RUBRAIL, PVC ARCWHT 20'

Supplier: TACO SUPPLY

Supplier Part#: V21-9710-WHC-20D

Anyone know of a source?

I ran into a similar issue, and Taco had a profile that was very close but just a little bit wider. What i ended doing was using the new rub rail on my swim platform, and used that rub rail to the replace the damaged portion on my hull.

Interesting... I don't think I have lost speed by reducing pitch either. In 2019, when I tested the boat, we saw 35mph on the pins but we were running on less than 1/4 tank of fuel, holding and fresh water were empty. Boat had a 28x32 props then.

Best prop size for me seems to be the 28x30.8" that I am running now. Also, based on MPG there isn't much difference running 1800-2000 RPM's, .63 mpg (36gph and 22mph) or .65 mpg (41gph and 27mph) respectively.
I got to thinking about speed and GPH. For bottom paint I have the hard epoxy anti-fouling which is pretty smooth and slick. I could imagine that the ablative paint would have much more drag due to its roughness as applied. What are you and the others putting on and the numbers you are getting?

I am running ablative paint so you might have a good point there. I be curious what others are running for paint

I wanted to be able to see my charts and radar info from the salon so if we’re at anchor I can see how we’re swinging or dragging. Also, I wanted to have all my n2k info available in the salon. I added a Raymarine Axiom 9 To the left of the electrical cabinet. It will be nice to check depths, water temperature, air temperature and I’m adding a windmeter so I can see wind speed and direction as well from the salon or cockpit without having to go up to the bridge.

We are using Trinidad 75 Hard Paint. See below numbers…

I do like your numbers much better than mine that’s for sure. If you are using hard paint as well then maybe that is a big factor.

Yes but you have an improved Salon, Galley, 3rd Bedroom and rear cockpit over our prev Gen boats. (Smile)

Jeremy- Did you confirm your Prop size and pritch?

All the speed data, rpm and other look great. I see very few people reading EGT data

Are you tracking/ reading EGT Data anywhere to see how your manifolds temperatures are running compared to Tony’s charts & recommendations ?

Have not purchased/installed the sensors yet.

Here are the reports for the props. I forgot that the last time I had the props repitched I was trying to get my fuel burn closer between the motors so my final numbers are 28x29.5 and 28x30. One says main set and one says spare set but I had both sets repitched at the same at the same time so they are virtually identical now.

I was talking with SWaterhouse yesterday (we winter at the same yard) and we were talking about why I am slower. He asked me how the condition was of the bottom of the boat. I didn’t really think it was that bad but today was prep for bottom paint day and I think he could be onto something. There are a lot of thick runs and just a little rough in general. This may be my issue for losing some speed. It might be time to have it stripped and repainted.

Have any of you had the bottom stripped, barrier coated and repainted on a 52? If so how much?
