I'm curious where the knock sensor is located on my engines. I don't get a clear idea of what it's doing either.

Could someone let me know where it is, etc? (yes I'm in alarm chasing mode) :)

Thanks all!

I haven't figured out where it is but I think I understand what it does. It's actually a type of microphone that the computer uses to determine when things are getting too lean and modifes the timing when it "hears" the knocking or pinging sound. That's way over simplified but when I read it it made sense.

I'd still like to know where it is located.

Good call! I was on that site the other day I just didn't know where to start digging! Thanks!

Just an FYI, Number 8 in that link is a temperature and pressure sensor for the intake manifold.

This really depends on your engine serial number, But the Knock sensor you are looking for is going to be either number 28 in this link below.

Or it could be number 13 in this link below.
This is the old style knock sensor.

But to be honest with you, This particular job and future jobs would be a hole lot easier on you if you had a Basic scan tool like the rinda MerCruiser Scan Tool with a service manual, Good luck with it.

I agree it might be easier but that's a chunk of change to hand over. Granted, probably worth it but....

Also in the particular situation that I'm chasing I had the shop put the computer on both engines and nothing showed up.
