Hey gang,

So what is everyone here doing for the 4th?
I think the wife and I , are going to take our new Sport 190 for it's 8th voyage, to a new lake for us. Tims Ford Lake here in south central TN, I hear it is a really pretty lake and from looking on the internet it also appears they do a fireworks display there on the lake on the 4th as well.

We have never had our boat out after dark, the trip is about an hour and 10 minutes away for us, think we are going to get up early in the morning and try to be there at the dock by around 8:00 am, so hopefully will still be able to find a place to park the truck and trailer once we get the boat in the water.

My wife really would love to see fireworks from the lake for the first time, so unless it is so crowded and I get too nervous, we may very well just stay out on the water for the fireworks show. It will certainly be a long day on the water, but it doesn't matter how long we are out on the lake when we go, the day just flies by and does not feel like we were out there that long at all.
I know it will probably be a mess with the crowds and all, especially folks trying to get their boats loaded after the display, but figure if nothing else we can just hang out there on the water for a while until it is not so hectic to get it loaded.

I have checked and the nav and anchor lights are working properly so should be in good shape for that.

have fun, and watch out for the crazy people... Bring lots of water and ice...

I have no idea how busy Tims Ford Lake is normally. If there are fireworks, I do expect it will be more busy than usual. Add adult beverages to that and I see potential for a bad night. Just me, but I would not take my first night cruise on a night where I know it will be busy and alcohol fuled. That's only my humble opinion.

You might want to ask around while you are there in daylight to find a good spot to watch from land. Pull the boat before sunset and enjoy. You might get some good boat ramp stories to share here!

Have fun however you celebrate and be safe.

Thanks

Plan to take your own advice here. Never have I seen more careless, reckless acts than after the ONE TIME I viewed fireworks from the water. I'll second Rod's advice too. Lots of cold water adds to comfort levels and also promotes clear, logical thinking.

I'll be at work! Canada Day was awesome though!

Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone! Blow up a part of 'Merica for me!

Yeah believe me I have been thinking about that. Couple weekends or so ago we were out on our local lake, and there was a big airshow going on - and yes, it could be seen from the lake. And yes, it brought the crowds-crazies - and yes a lot of adult beverages, out that day. trying to get the boat loaded up after the airshow, was not easy with all the folks reeking of alcohol trying to do the same.

The wife and I have actually talked about doing just that, ask around on the lake tomorrow while we are out there, and maybe loaded up the boat before dark and enjoying the fireworks from somewhere in the park there.

Thanks for the feedback gang!
And yes, there will be lots of bottled water and Gatorade in our cooler!

We'll be camping on the lake! Taking the boat to our beach and staying for two nights. Sat night going by boat over to the dock and drive down the street to Woodstock-yes, that Woodstock, to see CSN! Here's our baby on the beach where we camp 250 Sea Ray.jpg

Very nice SloBurn, now my wife would absolutely love to do something like that!

Been looking forward to this weekend ever since I purchased my boat. Cruising on the Mississippi, skiing, tubing and watching fireworks
on the river. But, mother nature had other plans. The Mississippi is 1 1/2 feet above flood stage and is very swift and full of debris. Didn't want to take a chance with by boat under those conditions. My 2 teenage girls were not happy. Should of had a backup plan. Oh well. Been on the river 7 times this year, and I will make up for lost times in the coming weeks. Hope everyone has a enjoyable and safe 4th of July.

Terry

my first reaction is to say "F" you. Your comment may be in jest but is pretty bad. I hope you meant have fun with fireworks. Remember, if we want Canada, we'll take Canada. You should choose your phrases a bit better.

Dburne - We'll be out on Percy Priest. Too late for this year, but Nashville Shores does a fireworks display, I believe it was tonight. We plan on going out for it next year.

Yeah I saw they were having one on the third. Percy is our home lake, and where we are usually boating on the weekends.
Looking forward to trying Tims Ford out.

Have a safe and enjoyable 4th everyone!

We will be rafting up on the Potomac, between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. The weather is cloudy and blah now but supposed to become spectacular as Arthur heads out to sea. Be safe where ever you decide to spend the weekend.

Have a good time. We were out on the Potomac last 4th. Great weather, but a mess with too many idiot boaters.

We're going out tomorrow and plan on anchoring up around Roosevelt Island for the day.

No boating for us today. GW has a high school friend who now lives in OZ. She's visiting in GW's hometown so we're headed up there to see her. The parade is tomorrow and we'll stay for that then head home and go out on the boat.

Caseville Mi for the fireworks on the 5th - Always get a slip for the weekend and I think it's crazy how may boaters have no lights on the boat after dark or as soon as the fireworks are done you hear 50 boats fire up - What's the hurry? I guess everyone is trying to get to the ramp first. It's always a clusterf#$k at the ramp when I cruise by going to the slip. I usually put my canvas up for the night and head over to the ramp for some entertainment. :)

Big party at the Yacht Club this afternoon, ending with sitting on the stern tonnigh watching the fireworks on the Bay. Wouldn't want to be out today, water's packed and think the boat races in the Gulf attract more folk than usual. Stay safe everyone. Happy 4th and enjoy your time with friends and family. Special Thanks to all the Men and Women in Uniform who have Served to help America Remain Strong, Proud and Free. Because of them our Independence is Guaranteed.

We went out on Wednesday evening and it's starting to fill in. There will be a huge influx of boats today for the fireworks. In one picture you can see the crane that is on the barge where the fireworks will be set off.

We got to Tim's Ford about 7:30 this morning beautiful lake. We will be staying on lake for fireworks. Have to cruise a few miles down to Winchester to see them. Will just hang out on lake after fireworks for a while so not fighting the crowd.
