Hi All,

I've heard the risers on salt water boats need to be changed every 8 years or so.

I have a 2006 496 Mercruiser with 330 Hours on it that was solely used in fresh water.
When do you think I'll need to change the risers being that it's always been in fresh water?

Just wondering what type of major preventive maintenance I should be doing now that I will be using the boat in Salt water.

Thanks

I have a 2008 in salt water an just did mine at ten years, they looked great probably could have got another five years out of them.
MerCruiser said change them every 10 years in salt water.
You should have no problem in fresh water, Hours don't matter.
The one thing that was destroyed and some of it missing is the exhaust flaps, They are in the exhaust tubes right before the water and exhaust goes out of the boat, worth taking a look at and really easy to take off the rubber couplings.

Just pulled the risers off my 2003 320 last year to install a closed cooling system when I moved the boat to Florida. Risers and manifolds looked brand new after 15 years in fresh water.
