480 Sedan Bridges

Can anyone tell me, what year were “significant” changes made to the 480’s? I’m considering moving up from our 400 and have been told to only buy a 2002 or newer, in a 480.....does anyone know if this is correct? And, what exactly was the “significant” change?

Late in 2002 I believe is when Sea Ray started to offer the Cummins Qsm11 motors that’s the most significant change The boat generally stayed the same from 1998-2004
Then it became the 500 sedan

The 400DB switched from a cored hull to a solid hull in mid-2001. Maybe same happened at the same time with the 480DB. But you'd have to call Sea Ray to find out.

I have an 01 with Cats. I also jumped up from a 400 to a 480 and VERY happy about the move. The only noticeable difference on the exterior of the 480's is the later years have a more rounded hardtop than the earlier years. I like that look better. The squared off hardtop looks dated to me. My 01 has the rounded hardtop. I am not sure what year the hardtop changed. The other 480 on my pier, which is a 2000 model, has some very minor interior differences, but not much. As stated in an earlier post.....the boats are primarily the same.
