The strainer cover for the port engine water intake on my 480 DB is missing and a replacement is not available until September. This certainly isn’t as important as baby formula but we haven’t even made our maiden voyage yet. Does anyone have a source or a work around?

I'm not able to help you, but how does that go missing, those are hinged in and part of the thru-hull right? There's an active thread right now about salvage, maybe you can find one in salvage.

I don’t know how it happened. Maybe the boat hit something and knocked it off. I’ll check the salvage thread. Thanks.

Take a picture of your starboard side cover so we can see the make and size of it. These are not Sea Ray specific parts, so they might be available at a local mom and pop marine store or marina.
I'm guessing you have Groco bronze strainers similar to these in the bottom of this picture?

    Cap is like this?

If the standard cap is back ordered, also check for a "Flush Cap." In bronze they are expensive, but you can at least run your boat.

I can see that I have used the wrong part identification. The part that is missing is a grate on the outside of the through hull fitting for the engine water intake.

I am assuming this is a new to you boat? I'm also assuming the boat is not in the water? I know I'm not helping you, just trying to understand how something like this goes missing unless it's from a hard impact and the boat's currently out of the water.

Many larger ones are removable for cleaning. Could be as simple as someone took it off and forgot to put it back on before launching to as bad as galvanic corrosion ate the mounting points and it fell off.

Get to know some of your dock mates; they will be your best friends for things like this "Hey dock mate, can you go take a pic for me, I am 3 hours away from the boat"... I rely on someone I met here and the broker who sold me the boat, who keeps his boat at the same marina.

I am in the same "boat"; trying to get mine home though she is 3 hours away right now slipped where I purchased her.

FYI - add your model to your profile so we can see it and help you quicker. All we see now is "1999 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge"

Tim, the link I attached in post 6 to Defender Marine’s site has several sizes in stock. It appears that the ones that they are out of stock are exactly as the picture I posted but with the nut. I would guess you could buy the in stock one without the nut and source it elsewhere. And once again, if you find out exactly what you need but it is out of stock in the big box suppliers, post in the General Discussion section a “help” thread. You have a nationwide network here on CSR who will check the mom and pop shops for you. :)

Quick Google search shows a lot of them. This should be a straight forward install you can do on your own as well.

Yep. I’ve made several calls to suppliers that show in stock but they have none. General Supply called Buck Algonquin and they had no inventory but do have the casting. They quoted 10 weeks to ship.
