The piles are 15-20' jetted and 1000lb hammered to depth, the water is 5' mlw, and the piles are about 10' above the water. My advise is go for the girth on the piles to prevent settling. Its paid for itself with no cost for bottom maintenance and no wear and tear on the AC. I put a portable dehumidifier from Lowes on the sink and run the discharge to the sump. No odors at all.

its not the length of my hose in question here. its all the foreplay involved in getting it out, moving the barrell chair (we ought to talk about those things someday), moving whatevers in front of the hose socket out of the way, dragging it upstairs,,etc. Having easy, quick access to a decent vac on the bridge could be a good thing. im thinking it would be a great xmas present for the wife, no???

You know by now that if you give her a vacuum cleaner for Christmas, that you're gonna get a doghouse.

If you are dead set on this vac for Xmas thing, you better get her a present with some bling to back up the vacuum cleaner. Otherwise, your proctologist is going to be removing the vac hose from some place where the vac hose shouldn't be.

well, while he's pulling the vac out he might as well grab the new lift cyclinder while he's poking around up there. because when I tell her what a new one's gonna cost, that could be where it ends up.

OK, here is another 480DB related topic...

Where is the air handler for the salon A/C unit? I cleaned the filters for all the other units on our trip to Provincetown this year, but I could not find the salon unit.

Being on vacation, I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking for it, but I would like to clean it before I put it away for the winter.

I pulled the corner cushion off the sofa, but only found the subwoofer (and another cool storage location).

It's behind the subwoofer under the sofa... You were staring at it and didn't see it.. it's against the hull by the hull vent and draws fresh air in and mixes it...

Thats when you know you've been married for a long time.

Did she get you the french maid outfit too?

I looked again quick and still didn't see it, do you have to pull the subwoofer out?

I have a big empty hole under the 'L' portion of the sofa, which looks like another big spot to store something. The subwoofer is in the corner of the sofa, But I don't think it will fit through the opening. I didn't see anything around the sub.

There seems to be space under the fold down part of the sofa. It's not there is it?

I have to get some time so I can take a closer look. I just went quick to check on the job the guys did cleaning it after the weekend.

You are not goimg to see it by just pulling the sofa seat part where the sub woofer is. You have to pull up the corner back piece of the sofa. It lifts straight up... held in by gravity and three pins...

It will be very dirty back there since you have not seen it yet...

The storage under the L part of the seat is where I put all the vacuum stuff....

Ahhh, I found it, Thanks. Mine actually has 4 screws holding the backrest in place.

Once you remove the seat cushion, there is a "tab" that sticks out of the bottom of the backrest. This tab is screwed to the frame of the sofa. Once those four screws are removed the whole backrest slides up as you indicated, top held by three pins.

There is quite a bit of space back there as well. You were right about this being a good drug smuggling boat.

It actually wasn't that dusty back there, and the filter only had a light layer of dust on it. The filter under the stairs was the worst. I am wondering if I am getting leakage from the dryer vent that is getting picked up by the AC unit. The flex duct doesn't seem to seal real well to the back of the unit.

I was actually going to mention that the 'L' area would be a good spot to store the vacuum hose, but I figured that you still have to get into the cabinet behind the barrel chair to get to the outlet.

Thats the only filter I couldn't find either. Just figured you could remove the cushion & reach back there somehow to get to it. how was it to replace the sofa piece, aligning pins and such?

my sub was pretty dusty so i'm guessing the filter is a mess too but, wow, that a/c still works great. you could pack meat in the salon.

do you guys keep both barrell chairs in yours boats? i took one home--always in the way. #2 may go later as well.

I haven't put the backrest back yet, as I still didn't vacuum it out, I stopped by this morning just to locate the unit. It looks like it will be no big deal to re-install, it literally just slides down into place with 3 guide pins. Mine also has 4 screws behind where the seat cushion goes. It isn't much harder than removing the seat cushion.

Yeah, my salon AC works amazingly well also, and I like it cold.

I do have both chairs and both footrest/stools under the table. I guess it would free up some space if I took them home, but I don't find it that bad.

I took one of those chairs home... and as you probably saw, reworked that cabinet where the vacuum connection is...

I am using that space back there to mount my Icom SSB electronics and antenna tuner. The head unit will then be on the bridge...

My wife keeps the boat so cold, there is usually condensation on the outside of the hull... it's like a big frosted glass.

Btw, for what it's worth, I mentioned a week or two ago I'd post results of my Nautical Structures hydraulic lift cylinder issue. Had a massive leak over labor day weekend and it appears a wiper ring has blown out, which I guess means an internal o-ring problem too but havent hauled the boat to confirm it yet. Anyway, here's the message I rec'd from the tech rep:

The lift cylinder you are requesting costs $1,170.00. The manufacturer does have it in stock. Please advise on how you would like to proceed. This cylinder does not include fittings and o-rings for those fittings. The current cylinder fittings are interchangeable provided they are in good condition. I will also paint the cylinder with black oxide paint for corrosion purposes free of charge. so, with haul-out, yard labor to remove lift/cylinder, doing the fitting/o-ring work, reinstallation, etc., I'm guessing my lift repair bill is going to be in the $2,500 range by the time all is said and done.

I think he forgot to tell you that when one goes, the other isn't far behind. $5k when all is said and done is my bet and i'm sticking to it.

you're probably right. There's a Hat owner 4-5 boats down from me who owns heavy equipment repair business--diesels to cylinders to whatever. I'm also going to ask him about re-building the thing, and maybe just do 'em both while he's at it.

I've read through this thread and it looks like the oldest 480 owner that has contributed is a 1999. Does anyone know what to look for in a 1998. I am going to look at a 1998 480 Sedan Bridge in the middle of January. I'm curious to understand any known issues or other things to be aware of...thanks in advance for any input. The link to the boat is pasted below:

ok Gent's I'm looking into one of these boats right now a 2001 48 DB, and it look damn nice, would get a survey on it anyways to make sure it's been taken care of as well, tell me why you think this is the best Sea Ray even manufacutered.... I'm not sure of that so prove it.
