480 DB Owners Club

I’m starting on the outside “side window” gaskets next week. Has anybody changed theirs and care to give a pointer? I have the outer seal/gasket from Taylor Made and it appears to be straight forward friction fit. Am I wrong or will I need some sort of adhesive?

The beauty gasket should fit right in. You will need some black caulking to finish the end pieces. Don't make it too tight as the rubber tends to shrink over time.

Guys I am in need of some help. Have a new owner of a 48DB over here in the Bahamas with me now and the anchor that he has on his boat is way too tiny to be the original. Can you all tell me what size delta came stock with this model and also what size chain fits the gypsy on this boat. Anyone upgraded to a Mantus anchor? With the windage on this boat and the wrong size anchor there is no way he can get this boat to stay. He wants to order new anchor and tackle to have it shipped over so he can continue his month long adventure here in the Bahamas. Thank you in advance for any help on this topic. Look forward to checking back later for some great info to pass onto him.

So it looks like the 480 DB was outfitted with a 44 pound plow anchor. Page 5, item 11:

Interestingly, this was the same anchor that was put on the 400DB. And it was undersized for the 400. I recently upgraded my anchor on my 400 to a 25kg (55lb) Rocna anchor. I went back-and-forth as to whether to get that or the Mantus. Both would be fine choices. Anyway, I could have gone to a 35kg on my boat, but it would quite fit. The back of the shaft would have needed a little trimming to fit under the metal anchor loop at the end of the bow pulpit. I was happy going up in size by one, and it has served me well. Your boat is considerably heavier than mine because it’s larger and has the fiberglass hardtop. So you would need an even larger anchor. I wouldn’t think about anything less than a 35kg (77lbs) for the 480. Perhaps larger. But you do need to make sure it will fit in the hardware that you currently have on the boat. I’m sure someone in this group has replace the anchor with a larger one and can tell you how big they went without any hardware modifications. But your initial guess is correct. That anchor is too small for that boat.

Can someone tell me which order the fuel fill openings are? ie. foreward=port / rear= starboard? Been running the gen so much I am a quarter tank less on port.

TY
Typically but not a rule - if the fill is on the port side then the forward one is Starboard tank and aft one is port tank.

That is what I was guessing it was, the port tank, so that confirmed my guess. (unless there is a difference in model years) . Thank you very much for the replies.

I have mine marked and can verify next weekend but I'm pretty sure the forward one is port. Word of advice, always fill the port tank first if you are low on fuel so the gen doesn't suck air.

I marked the underside of my caps with P and S using a paint marker. Although a Dremel would be more permanent to engrave the inside.

Thank you for your help Brent. Much appreciated.
No problem. Question for you. I see in your profile details you have a Caribe Center Console dinghy, assuming it is on your lift. Is that an 11' or 12' dinghy and how does it do on the platform? I am considering going to a center console dinghy and I am a bit concerned with the amount of room to get around the dinghy. Any insight would be appreciated.

Great question my friend. It is a Caribe DL12 12' RIB. It is a little tough opening the trunk hatch. I actually have to drop the platform back a few inches so I can open the trunk hatch when I disconnect my shore power. My Cable-Master switch is in the trunk so it is a little tight. There is still room on the corners of the swim platform for docking if needed. The lift can raise the tender full of fuel and fresh-water and myself aboard. I kind of think that is pushing it, but I have done that before.

I can take some pictures for you, but I have to say, I wouldn't go without our tender now. We purchased it from the seller post-sale and got an unbelievable deal. The outboard was near new with under 50 hours. The Caribe's are very nice with lots of features and I highly recommend them. I used it a lot for Tarpon fishing along the Gulf beaches this summer and all other types of fishing include near shore Gulf fishing for Spanish & Kings. For inshore, it is very quiet with little hull slap when up on the flats and needs very little water to float. Getting a portable live-well soon.

LMK if I can answer any other questions.

Vince

I will get you a couple pictures of the boat on the rack/platform. I may get over there today for a while. If not today, later in the week possible. Here are a couple for now.

Great, thank you for the response. I have a 10' RIB currently and was considering going up to an 11' console but was concerned with the size. Yours is 12' so, an 11' should be fine.
Thanks.
