Well, for one thing, they appear to be photos of the same boat. Probably a listing ran out with one broker and another broker relisted for the seller…….But, who knows if it is a '99 or a 2000 without seeing the HIN#.

Hmmm... what are you seeing, Frank? They don't look the same to me. Different helms, different interior flooring, different swim platforms... Unless by "same boat" you mean they appear to be the same model year?

Thats odd. The 99 was just listed this week and now all of a sudden has been removed from boattrader.

Here is the 99 on yacht world and the knot10 site

In the first pair of links SeaNile posted, the photos were of the same boat….name on the transom was the same. Then in the second pair of links he posted the 1999 photos were different and the name on the transom was censored so my only conclusion is you better go look at any boat knot10 has listed or offered you because iot appears they either didn't proof-read their listing before posting it or they are using "sistership" photos instead of real pix of the boats they are trying to interest you in.

Thats weird. I didn’t see that. I clicked the links and got two different boats, Black and Tan. That’s why I was curious what you were seeing. I sure wouldn’t put it past some brokers to be sloppy with pics, though. There’s no excuse other than laziness or a boat in horrible condition for using stock boat photos, for example!

I hate when brokers post one picture of the actual boat and then the marketing photos from the Sea Ray marketing brochure. Lazy asses.

I don't know what happened but the links were for two different boats. A 99 with tan canvas and a redone bridge dash with Garmin electronics. The other was a 2000, black canvas, teak cockpit, etc.

This is why I like selling and buying privately. The owners know more about the boat than the broker. Spoke to the broker for the 99. Of course it's beautiful and I better act fast because it's going to sell extremely fast. Not that I doubt him, but that's always the feedback from any broker I've ever communicated with about their boat for sale.

Me: How long have the owners owed the boat?
Broker: I don't know, maybe 4 years, could be 2-3. I'm not really sure.
Me: Lots of bridge dash and electronics work was done. By whom and when?
Broker: Oh, I don't know who did that. Doubt it was the current owners but you never know. No idea how long it's been, who did it , but does have Garmin screens.
Me: I'm pretty sure some years the hulls where cored from the waterline and above. Do you know if this is the case on this 99?
Broker: What? Cored hull? Don't think so, its fiberglass.
Broker: It's just had lots of engine work done, even the 1000hr service.
Me: Do you know who did the work? Certified Cat place or indy mechanic (not asking for specifics) and what work was done?
Broker: Not sure, but the service was extensive.
Broker: The engines were replaced, I think in 2003.
Me: Interesting, do you know why, any specific reasoning (hinting at original after cooler issues)
Broker: Replaced in 2003, thats all I know. Must have the new after coolers then....

My point is, no one knows their boat as well as the owners. After this very brief conversation it pretty much ended with come and see the boat if you are interested. Yes, of course i am going to look at the boat I was just looking for some basic questions and hoping to get some answers. Obviously this is a case of the boat has been listed and it's up to the interested parties to do all the work. Which I don't mind at all....just wish he knew a little something about the boat. Turns out, he knows absolutely nothing at all.

Call me if you want to see the boat was how it was left. Not a "Hey, let me get some answers for you and I'l touch base with you Monday."

I’ve never worked with Knot10 but I know some who have. After no success selling, they moved to Bluewater, who sold the boat quickly.

Go look at it. While there in peer on, ask for copies of the seller’s invoice for the engine work. Ask for copies of the seller’s survey when they bought it. If they won’t try to assemble this for you, let them know you are very interested but cannot proceed further if THEY won’t help get you important info about the boat. Ask to talk to the manager. You’re right, they have an obligation to help facilitate the sale. If they won’t, let them know it’s because of their unhelpfulness that you’re walking. They probably won’t care, but I think it’s important to let businesses know why you’re not working with them.

Anyone have any experience with Man engines. I am currently looking for a 480DB. I have mostly been looking at Cummins. I live in the Northern Virginia area off of the Potomac. Any thoughts on mechanics and parts availability for Mans vs QSMs?

Friend has a 58 with twin MAN 900s. I know he flies in his MAN man for service up from Virginia. I'll get the name if you'd like but sounds like you're in good shape.

I think the advantage of the 6 cylinder MAN's in the 480DB are higher power and no dry manifold/turbo issues.

This is very much a ford vs chevy thing. The MANs are good reliable engines but need to be properly maintained as is the case with most engines.

The shop in VA is Advanced Marine Diesel, they travel extensively but are local to you.

Just took the day and checked out the 480 in Rock Hall. Time well spent because I really think we are going to go with the larger SunDancer.

I saw the Man powered 480 just listed for sale recently. Private seller which can be a good thing!

Looking at boats is always fun! And you narrowed your choices, so I'd call it a successful day! There's a big difference/compromise between a Dancer and a Sedan Bridge. What fits you best depends on what sort of boating you prefer to do. The big thing we gave up in going Dancer to DB is the loss of the big outdoor gathering area that the Dancers have. To get that sort of deck space on a bridge boat is a boat well outside my price range! But we love the interior cabin space as we overnight a lot. And we don't like going "down in the cave" all the time. There is no perfect boat. Pick the layout that's best for your boating.

Steve, that’s exactly why I moved to the 400DB. I would love to move to the 480DB but right now that is my dream boat.
