480 DB Owners Club

Hello SR 480SB owners. We bought ours in October 2019 and I am still in the learning mode. Seems to be a great boat but way different than previous boats. I posted a question on the electronics forum and I hope it is ok if I ask it here to since you all have the same boat. Here's my question: We have a 2003 SR 480EB with a Vetus Bow Thruster. The thruster controller is at the helm station and has a black toggle switch to provide power to the controller, and a green lighted button I press to activate the joy stick. The thruster works just fine, but the light under the green button does not light up. Anyone have that problem and know how to get to that bulb to replace it?

The module can be disassembled, but might not be worth the effort to try and get it fixed. Call Vetus me get a new module.

I'd try taking it apart, the bulb most likely needs replaced from the inside and I don't think it's a sealed unit. From memory, it doesn't seem like you can get the green lens out from the outside.

Don't worry too much. Even if your green light goes out your thruster should still work just fine. Mine does.

Anyone have a good way to take out the recessed lighting in the overhead in the salon, galley, etc? I know they are in there spring loaded, but mine are in so tight it's almost as if they are glued in place. I don't want to damage the ceiling cover, obviously.

Plastic pry bar and/or finger nails and pull. And those springs can be like a mouse trap on your fingers

They are in tight. Watch for your fingers. I usually get it started and work one side out then the other so the springs don't get me.

They are tight....but will come out. It will feel like they are going to break before it frees up and comes out. Once you have done it a couple times, it’s a snap. No pun intended.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my question about the recessed lights. You confirmed my guess that the only way to get them out of the overhead is as you all described. I will attach that project soon.

The Admiral has decided that we need sheets and bedspreads for the master and guest cabins on the boat. Do any of you have a source for bedding for our 480's?

Hello All...

I’m going to be replacing the clarion amplifier that I assume came from the factory, with a JL audio amp. Later this week I’ll attempt to trek through my spaghetti wiring to see where the positive is coming from. It appears to be 8 gauge which will be too small for the new system.

Leading into the project i have several questions, and was wondering if anyone has already been to the other side of this one..

1. Will the positive wire on the amp lead me to a harness? If so, where can i find the other end of the harness?

2. It seems it might be easier for me to install a battery and it’s own charger under the bridge console, than to run a million feet of wire from the engine room. Has anyone else done this?

3. It would be ideal (but not required) to have the amp tied into the alternator still, but doing so is currently my biggest unknown since I haven’t seen all of the current wiring configuration yet.

I’m have a lot of experience with 12v wiring to include audio, but I’m hoping that I’m the last 480DB owner in the world to replace the factory audio system, and someone can shed some light of what they experienced/ came across on systems that weren’t exactly plug and play.

Thanks in advance!

Did you find the answers you were looking for? If not I may be able to help -

I want to replace the overhead lights in the cabin of my 480 with LEDs. I've searched but can't find the part numbers or a source. Has anyone changed to LEDs and can provide a good source and part numbers? Thanks in advance.
