480 DB Owners Club

anyone who wants the sub zero's out of my boat is welcome to them. I just replaced them.

I'm located in Jupiter, FL

I have the 2005 500DB

on another note, has anyone recently replaced their shore power cable?
on the 2005 500DB it's basically hardwired to a breaker box and all of the cables now a days have the male and female ends with those LED lights on them to confirm there is power on both ends.
looking for a source for only one male end plug with the other end bare wire

Pretty sure your only options are to buy in bulk and add the male plug (Fisheries Supply sells bulk cord). Or buy a cordset and cut one end off.

Were they still working? Seems like they have a 12 year lifespan. My dockmate's '05 55 lost the refrigs' compressor this year and we lost the freezer this year. Both SubZero's...

yes, they were working very well, i'm making interior upgrades and went to stainless steel.

right now they are sitting on the dock next to my boat, replaced them last Friday.

We are considering moving up to a 480 Sedan Bridge from our current 400. Has anyone here made similar jumps? Any thoughts or advice is welcome. Thank you!

I just jumped up from a 400DB to a 480DB this summer and love it. They are two completely different boats in my opinion even though they are sedan bridge styles.

Positives about the 400 over the 480:
400 has more storage room (yes believe it), but you can store some stuff in the 480 engine room if needed.
400 uses less fuel. The 480 is about twice the weight of the 400.
400 has more comfortable couches. Both my wife and I agree on this. The 480 couch backs sit up straighter.

Positives over 480 over 400:
480 has more overall room.......which makes sense due to it being a larger boat.
480 both heads are larger.
480 has three state rooms. We host almost every weekend.
480's engine room is easier to move around in. Both are cramped in certain parts when doing repairs.
480 has a better bridge layout (my opinion once again).
480 has a bow thruster. My 400 didn't.

Both are great boats. I loved my 400 and was nervous about selling it since I was so attached to it. I am loving my 480 and glad I made the move up. The 480 is just a different boat overall with the same Sea Ray quality.

Looked at an 01 480 and noticed the pictured oil sheen from one of the engine exhaust while at idle. The other was fine. Seller brushed it off as it was normal. Thoughts?
Sorry for the delay on posting, Out of town. BUT, If that has a hydraulic swim platform, That looks to me like a leaking seal on the ram. Which could be costly.

My dockmate just replaced the two lift and two lock cylinders on his 480DB's GHS lift for about 2 boat $.

It wasn't visible until he fired the engines however which lead me to believe it was from the exhaust ports.

On a side note, the lock cylinders rarely go bad. They usually get jammed up because of marine growth on the shaft and can be disassembled and polished. I did that a few times then added rubber accordion boots to mine and haven't had an issue since.

If the platform was operated just prior or during the engine running, it could still be that. Only reason I say this is cause it happened to mine a couple years ago. Firing up the engine moved the water around and showed the sheen coming from my ram. I have the TNT style not GHS. Either way it's NOT NORMAL as the broker stated.

Ok, he might have actuated it at some point. Would look further into it if we revisit. I was completely turned off by the thought of it coming from the mains.

valve lash job. Expected cost?
I used Cummins in De Pere, 920-336-9631 for my engine survey, valve adjustment, and some other minor repair 3yrs ago. The valve adjustment is quite easy on my engines, cost for two engines was about 500 bucks total, don't know if that would be similar on yours.

Found this old thread from '14, a couple guys had their qsm11's done, costs were about the same. http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/valve-lash-adjustment.70262/

Thank you for the response Crime Scene, the only item that really surprised me is that the 400 has more storage room.

In looking at the 480 market, it seems that there is generally a bit of an asking-price jump between the CAT and Cummins powered 480's that are of the same model year or just a year or two apart.

In one example, the ask for a 2002 Cummins is $94k higher than a very similar 2002 CAT.

Is the Cummins power worth the premium over the CAT?
