480 DB Owners Club

Crime Scene, I have one that is currently not installed on the boat. My 480 unfortunately is going up for sale soon. IF the new owner has no interest in it, then I can offer it to you. Boat should be listed by end of next week. I removed it for more entertainment and fishing space. I have trolling valves on my 480 to slow the boat for fishing/trolling. BTW your speed at idle, both engines in gear and not on "Slow Speed", is a bit over 8 mph. on "Slow Speed" it's still over 5 mph.

Congrats on the new DB

Cherman, I'm looking at 480DB's so I'd love to see yours. It doesn't hurt that you're local, either! Where are you slipped? PM me, if you want to discuss off-line.

Steve

What does everyone do for shaft seal maintenance and or inspection - anything? I just realized I take mine for granted and don’t really know much about them.

I am VERY interested if the new owner does not want it. I agree, the boat really flies at idle speed. My 400 moved along pretty good also, so I am used to fast idle speed. Let me know about the bench. I am a little far away right now to pick it up, but will be in Philly on August 2nd and 3rd, which is closer to your port. I could swing down that way and pick it up.
Thanks,
Keith

I need to replace mine too.
This is the shade and roller only, (pricey) you have to install it in the frame, kind of a pain but not too bad. After I saw what they sent, I probably could have bought a shade somewhere local and cut it down, etc. Call the company and they will help you get exactly what you need.

Has anyone replaced the bridge AC condensor/blower units with self contained units like the ones downstairs and gotten rid of the unit in the bilge under the cockpit completely, The compressor in the bilge under the cockpit on this boat has already been removed anyway? With a separate high capacity pump that can lift the water for the units up top, it seems like 2 new units (better technology) would be a better option and less expensive. I changed the middle unit (under the stairs for the middle state rooms) with a marinaire 9kBTU and have been very pleased so far. Looking at how I would circulate the water to up top and drain it. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks!

The vacuflush systems in my 2001 480DB are Dometic Vacuflush model VG12. I have attached the owners manual, which contains a drawing with all the parts numbers.
If it helps anyone, On a 2004, below is the new (Quiet version) of the pump for the vaccum tank that will direct replace the original one (when it starts sounding like a monkey beating it w a hammer) It is a lot quieter. Easy to do, but a nasty job.

I replaced my 2001 480DB salon shades by United Shades of Indiana order from Blinds Chalet 888-633-7840. Style: Day and night RV shades. Day: Alabaster, Night: Cellular Buff, Rail: Sea Oyster
If it helps anyone, attached .pdf (not sure how a pdf will display) is what I replaced all of the salon window treatments with (does not include the sliding glass door). Haven't installed them yet, but don't expect any issues. These are double cell black out cordless tri-shades, which basically means you can have no shade, light filtering, or blackout with no cords to fool with. $540 total

I am looking at a 1999 480 Sedan Bridge with the 3196 Cats. Also I understand this vintage has the balsa core hull. After reading and researching I am worried and not sure I should buy this vintage boat. The boat has spent all of its life in freshwater except for a 3 month trip to the Bahamas. Any insight, comments, concerns, and expert advice would be greatly appreciated. The cats have 2400 hours and the gen 3100.

Good evening forum,

I wanted to thank all of you for your informative post which steered me to purchase a 2001 480DB (survey and sea trial completed today). I hope soon to contribute and steer others to this incredible machine.
Warm Regards,

Tony Forest

Congrats! I saw a few at MarineMax near Brick NJ on Yachtworld. Did you buy one of them?

Lou,
I have the 1999 model. Yes, there is coring, but it is solid on the mounting areas, so unless someone has not taken care, it should be fine. As you are aware, you should have a survey done to check moisture, but watch how they use the meter, if they aim at the hull and downward, you might get higher than normal readings. check all port holes and anywhere a hole has been cut. I love our boat. I have 3200hours on my 3196 cats and about the same on the genny. let me know if you have any additional questions. CSR is a wonderful and helpful group.

Hi everyone, I am thinking of upgrading/changing the salon flooring. I have seen a few people have installed wood flooring forward of the bar, but I was wondering if anyone has done the whole salon floor? Did you use wood or another faux wood material and also how did you compensate for the curved edges on the hatches that cover the engine room? Thanks for your thoughts, insights, and any tricks that helped.

I removed my bridge one this weekend and was going to get a price for the whole thing, didn't know you could repair them.

I'm pretty sure the master and bridge hatches are the same size.

This was just the shade side, it consist of the spring loaded roller and the shade only, not the handle/latch that goes across the edge of the shade or anything else.

Has anybody replaced the shower door sweep on the port bathroom bi-fold door? I ordered what I thought was a replacement online but the “T” shape that slides in the track was too large...
I spent a lot of time on the phone with TaylorMade. They determined that they no longer make the door and had no repair parts. I had Huckins boat yard manufacture a new slide. Expensive, but it's worked well so far. You might contact them to see if they kept any documentation of what they made and ask them to make you one too.

The cupholders in my bridge settee arms are starting to deteriorate? Has anyone replaced them? If so, where did you get them? How did you get them out and in?

I ordered a replacement sweep from TaylorMade. The door is Taylor Made bi-fold port head shower door assembly #703-851-700. Donna at Taylor Made Customer Service 518-773-0636 was very helpful.
